My philosphy of classroom management is to create a classroom that has an effective and positive learning environment, through management strategies. To me, this means setting up rules and expectations so that my students know exactly what they need to do and how they are expected to behave as students, and then enforcing those rules as needed. Classroom management is a very broad topic but I want to work to have a productive classroom. In the future I can see myself adjusting this based on what age I am teaching, what kind of area I am teaching in, and how effective my management strategy is. If my classroom isn’t managed well and my strategy seems to be struggling, I would adjust.

-AS

I hope to use positive reinforcement to encourage the behaviors that are conducive to learning. By focusing on the positive rather than the negative I hope to have a calm and welcoming environment for students. I will also involve my class in the rule/consequence decision making. Both will be visible (displayed) at all times. Students can reference them if need be.

I imagine my philosophy will on classroom management will change as my students change. As I mature into a seasoned teacher I'll be better equipped for new-teacher pitfalls... but those experiences will be learning ones so it can't be all bad.
-BS

I would say as of right now my philosophy on classroom management is that it is extremely crucial for a successful classroom. I say this because of the readings I have read as well as the stories I have heard, and of course my own personal experience in both classrooms with great management as well as the opposite. I think one of the biggest eye opening experiences with classroom management is from my own experience. Seeing classrooms fail because of a lack of management is frustrating and sad. I can see my philosophy of classroom management changing a bit because I have not had to use it much in my life at this point but next year that is all going to change.

-GR

I think that my philosophy on classroom management boils down to expectations and the relationship that you have with your students. If you have a good relationship with your students (not a friendship, but a working respect between you and the kids in your class), then you are already setting yourself up for success. I also think that if you set clear expectations from the very beginning of the year on what it is that you expect of them and what they should be doing at every point of the day, then you are setting them up for success. The clearer you are with your students about what you expect of them, what their role in the classroom is, and how you intend for the year to go, then the easier it should be to manage your classroom.
I think that my philosophy on it might evolve over the course of my teaching career. I actually expect it to. As a teacher I feel like you are constantly learning and changing and trying new things, so I expect that I will be doing that whenever I start teaching.
-AB

I want to create an effective learning environment and I want to use positive reinforcement, modeling, and rules/consequences to do so. I think it's important to focus on the good things--what the students do well and model to them how something should be done when they don't understand. I want to use rules/consequences and have them posted throughout the classroom because I think students would take the rules more seriously if they helped put them into practice.
I know that my philosophy will change as a have more and more experience and that's natural. What works for one group of children might not work for another and I am prepared for that to happen.
-MB

If I am able to provide students with this kind of environment I will be able to better manage my class. Having a well managed class is something that is very important to me and I do not think I can have a successfully managed classroom without creating a positive, safe community first.
-AD

My favorite philosophy of classroom management, right now, is prevention. I think that a lot can be accomplished by taking precautionary measures, so that the students know what they are expected to do and are not confused. I abhor any philosophy that has to do with the teacher feeling like they have to be militant with their students. Not only is it rude, but it creates a hostile environment. So, when I say that precautionary measures will be taken, I mean that there will be agreed upon guidelines put in place, and I will be sure to do everything I can so that disruptive behavior is at a minimum. I believe in students. I believe that the younger you get them, the more of an influence you can make. Positive or negative. I would like to make a positive. I believe that this philosophy will evolve throughout my teaching in a positive way. Not only will I make my classroom feel safe, by adopting this philosophy, but more learning will get to take place because I won’t have to worry as much about disruptions.

-BH

My philosophy for classroom management is focused around prevention. I feel it is not only important, but extremely effective to have preventative measures in place in your classroom. It is crucial that students know your expectations for them and yourself prior to any instruction taking place. When problems do arise, they should be handled in a way that shows respect and dignity towards the offending students.

My philosophy can and, most likely, will change over the years as a response to the change in the world. What works with students now may not work with student 20 years from now. Technological changes as well as social changes will provide new realms of issues to address. However, I feel that the core of my philosophy, preventative action, will remain the same as it is always better to

-EV

In my future classroom, I want to manage it in a way that makes all individuals feel safe and welcome. Every student should feel accepted and comfortable. In order for this to happen, I think it is important to have very explicit classroom rules and expectations, as well as developing a strong sense of community so everyone can get to know one another. I believe it is necessary to have strong and in depth relationships with students. I will emphasize a huge focus on prevention techniques to stop poor behavior before it occurs.

When I become a teacher, I'm sure that over time these beliefs could evolve, as I learn from my mistakes and successes. I want to consistently improve this my management skills.

-RW

My philosophy on classroom management is focusing on prevention. I also want to highly promote and reinforce positive behavior. I think it is important for children to feel safe and loved as well. I want my classroom to be their home away from home. I also want to build a mutual respect between myself and all of my students. I think a big part of building respect is building classroom expectations where everyone is on the same page.

I think this may evolve through the years with experience. I want to strive to be a consistent teacher and grow from my weaknesses, which I will learn in my first few years of teaching.

-MGB
