Social media is molding our perceptions to see how an ideal person or lifestyle is like. Some people may see a beautiful lady or muscular man and because of the amount of likes they see it as the ideal body that most people want and admire it. Others see posts of people vacationing and buying expensive things and think that to be happy they need to be rich and spend money.

Social Media is heavily conditioning how we look at ourselves and perceive others. It is a highlight reel, that only lets us see the best of other people. Our subconscious mind does not realize this though, and compares ourselves to what we see on social media. This damages our self-confidence and creates a sense of artificialness in our view towards the rest of humanity.

I believe there is media manipulation on social media. For example, there was a tapioka boom recently, but I wonder did the media mention tapioka because it was actually popular. If the media broadcasts “Taiyaki is very popular among the world!!”, I feel like Taiyaki is going to be actually popular. It is a chicken and egg situation.

Social media I feel has two sides of the same coin. On one side it is connecting us to other people, new knowledge, and places in world. In a way it's broadening our horizons and perceptions. On the other side it is changing how we are communicating and it is also giving us pressure to fit in to unrealistic standards and expectations. It plays a big role in determining others perceptions of us. We see other people only posting their accomplishments and adventures and it makes us feel either inspired by them or lesser than them. Most of the time it's the latter.

Social media is providing an outlet for information and communication like never before. However, it has both positive and negative effects on the mind and society. People can provide outreach and research more easily, but can find misinformation and harmful content as well. Many youths are growing to be more socially anxious due to worries about likes and follower count on social media platforms. Unfortunately it may also become a competition for some to fight for attention.

We develop our understanding of the world through deductions based on experience and information. Social media accelerates this process by giving us a constant stream of information that may vary greatly in quality and authenticity. Therefore, generations that use social media frequently will quickly develop either an advanced or skewed perspective of the world, or something in between. This depends on our awareness of the type of media we expose ourselves to and our willingness to evaluate the information we take in. Hopefully, enough people will accept that they are not invulnerable to indoctrination and confirmation bias.

Social media is affecting how we understand each other and how we communicate. In my experience it is harder to communicate with the younger generation of people rather than the older generation because of the communication styles. Social media is also affecting how we view ourselves and how much value we give ourselves. It can damage our self-esteem and others because most of the time false images of others are projected making us rethink our own lives.

Each social media platform is striving for your attention, and when the algorithm picks up on something that catches your eye such as an anti-republican commercial, it will try to show you more and more anti-republican media and skew your opinion further and further towards an extreme view.

Also, there are so many different opinions on social media that it is leading us towards a society akin to Brave New World. A society where information is available to us, but we are so overwhelmed with it and no longer care. Nobody seems to care about any opinion on social media except for those who have a verified badge or a lot of followers.

Social media is an opened platform, is where full of excitement, and where everyone can share their opinion or feeling towards an event or their own experience. This helps people learn from other's experience and be open-minding with other's thought. It means we can receive more perceptions from other's disclosure. Social media plays a role as a 'window' of opinions based on different background.
However, sometimes social media hinders our perception because there are too many distractions on the Internet. We may blindly believe someone's view or be misled by the fake information. For example, it is common to find out logical fallacies from article, politicians speech or propaganda. If we do not notice them, it will limit our thought. Overall, social media can be a booster or a hinder depends on our consciousness.

social media enabled us to expand the area where you can walk through easily so you will be exposure to wider range rather than smaller scale. The more people react to your post and comments, the more you feel satisfy for being recognized by other including someone you do not know. It is good thing to perceive these interaction with peers, however, this has negative impact as well which is expectation of being certain quality and standards. User will only react what they thought likable so once you stopped or fall from the borderline, you will required to reach that threshold again which is a reason of being pressure and anxiety. There is a pros and cons about the use of the social media in terms of perceiving a pressure and fame from other.

Social media began as a fantastic idea. The ability to connect immediately with anyone, anywhere was an amazing, never-before-seen idea that quickly became a reality thanks to the internet. Ideas and cultures could spread much faster and freer than they could before.

But humanity quickly proved that it was not meant to have access to this kind of power. Since social media is able to give anybody the potential to have a far-reaching voice, people with odd and hate-filled ideas connected with each other and formed their own groups. They could not be targeted online since they were given anonymity, being able to talk to each other with fake names and no direct face-to-face contact. They began to support each other, strengthening their confidence in the values they would have discarded in the real world.

Rather than people's viewpoints becoming softer, and regarding those who disagree with empathy, suddenly everything became a life-or-death issue. Hundreds of thousands of people are now committed to heavily one-sided ideals, and disregard the humanity of those who do not agree with them.

With the cloak of anonymity, humanity has fully gone "mask off" and celebrated its ugly side. Death threats are highly common, and actual real-world violence has erupted numerous times as a result of aggression that began on social media. People actively celebrate the deaths of prominent members of their opposition. Young, unsupervised users are lured in by some groups and "groomed" for the purposes of either indoctrination or sexual exploitation.

Social media, in my opinion, has made it almost impossible to have civil discussion. People have become so desensitized to treating other people over the internet as sub-human, and will think nothing of going to extreme means to intimidate an opponent. Threatening them, mocking them, or "doxxing" them (publicly revealing personal information about the user, such as their name or home address); I have witnessed all of these firsthand.

I have tried to abstain from social media the best I can, using it only to check the news and communicate with people I already know in real life. Its current state greatly concerns me about the future of the human race. What will happen once everybody controlling the systems that keep society intact are the same ones who have been exposed to a lifetime of online hatred, and absolute disregard of any opinion mildly differing from their own? I fear we are not too far from finding out.

Social media provides information as well as misinformation. In positive cases, many young people have different political views compared to their parents. This is usually influenced by what they see on the media and being exposed to more viewpoints.

Social media plays a role in our perception to deliver information to us. However, it has a double impact on our lives, positive and negative. For example, it allows us to stay connected. This makes sense for family members with small children, as it connects people who don’t live in the same place and maintain relationships through chat and videos from time to time. On the contrary, it distracts us from our goals in life. It’s easy to get so involved in social media that we lose our true life goals. Young people, in particular, can easily go for Internet stardom instead of striving for their dream jobs through useful skills. That’s why we need to give proper judgment when using it so we don’t get influenced by the negative.
