Tom's house is an elegant mansion but it still is not sufficient for this muscle man who peaked in his early football years. He holds no value to money as he has a near infinite supply received from his parents. Tom is aggressive and is unable to be close with people as he sees almost everybody as competition. The annotation above shows the carelessness of his lifestyle of lavish life. 

Muscles and anger issues. Rich and arrogant. Two poor combinations that Tom Buchanan broadcasts to everyone he crosses paths with as he travels East to West coast continuously cheating on his wife Daisy with a married woman in New York who seems to be Tom’s only challenge in being the most irritating human being on Earth.

Having a loud neighbor is bothersome. Having a silent neighbor who watches your every move and assumes his rare glances of your existence to be plenty intriguing for gossip and dinner table conversations is concerning. Nick is completely obsessed with Gatsby and uses the fact that he is his neighbor as a frequent conversation starter to people he meets as to upgrade his own status by conveying this useless information.

Gatsby is rumored to have become as wealthy as he is by being related to a person of high status as nobody knows what he does or has ever done to make money. Although this rumor would portray Gatsby as a skilless, simple, undeserving man, people continue to obsess over him likely due to the fact he only goes outside every time the sun makes a rotation around the Earth.

Famous last words. Jordan never learned how to drive well and expects everybody to compensate for her lack of experience.  Jordan nearly hits a man on the side of the road whilst driving and blows it off as a silly mutual mistake.   Jordan is unable to take things seriously and focus on more than just lavish party life which could lead to somebody getting hurt.

Jordan and Nick met at the Buchanan's and they hung out at lavish parties like Gatsby's. Jordan and Nick both know Gatsby and Jordan seems to have a relationship with Gatsby that has not yet been unveiled.

Gatby's interaction with Nick shows both Nick and Gatsby's true character. Nick did not know he was talking to Gatsby as Gatsby assumed he knew without a formal introduction proving Gatsby as a humble reclusive type. Gatsby did not interact with many during the party and had his butler announce musicians and entertainment.

Nick acted himself when he first met Gatsby and they planned to go flying together. East Egg and West Egg are in Long Island, New York. Extremely wealthy people live in both places and generally own large houses. East Egg has many residents that have inherited 'old money' from their parents and relatives who worked for their wealth while West Egg tends to have residents who have 'new money' from earning an income.

The Valley of Ashes is an industrial city that is constantly cloaked in gray smog. Men work in factories and are watched by the eyes of billboard advertisements. New York is just as crowded as Valley of Ashes but it is filled with consumerism as people have more money to spend. Myrtle is Toms side-chick that he is having an affair with. Myrtle is impulsive and lives her life making irrational decisions for the fact that she only has one life to live. When she sees a man selling puppies outside the window of the car, she decides she need one for the apartment and buys one immediately.

A puppy is difficult to properly take care of because it requires a lot of attention and time. Myrtle wants the dog for the apartment she goes to when having an affair with Tom and cannot take care of it. Mr. Wolfsheim is part of New York's Jewish mob. He is a very violent man who wears human molars on his clothing. He rigged the world series to make enormous profit and evades the law. Mr. Wolfsheim is proud to have known Gatsby for several years and they seem to business partners in some way.

Gatsby tries to project an image of being respectful and honest. Gatsby refrains from becoming rowdy at his parties and remains calm and collected. Despite Gatsby's efforts to appear honest, many believe rumors that he had been a German spy or that he killed a man. It is revealed by Jordan to Nick under Gatsby's request that he is in love with Daisy and that they had a previous relationship before he left for war. Gatsby had bought the mansion in West Egg for the sole reason  to be close Daisy. He has built relationships with people so he could use them to get information about Daisy's life and possibly meet up with her.

In the five years Gatsby has lived in West Egg, he has never seriously attempted to see Daisy. He hopes that she will wonder in to one of his parties but he has neglected to formally invite her. With Tom cheating on Daisy and her previous hesitation to getting married to him, Gatsby and Daisy would most likely be better off together.

Gatsby has become obsesses with green. Wealth has become his way to prepare for when he finally can see Daisy again and impress her with all he has obtained. He flaunts his riches to her when they meet as a desperate plead to reinstate their previous relationship. She did not marry Gatsby because he was not rich enough. So he became rich. He has done many things to show his wealth from fake bookshelves to even buying his mansion. Gatsby has made his entire house a speculation so that one day he could impress Daisy with his amounted wealth. Most items in his house he has solely obtained as to add to his collection of typical rich people items. It is in his bedroom where his true attraction to these material things lie. 

Gatsby's bedroom is almost completely untouched by riches. As it's simplicity shows Gatsby's only real desire is to impress Daisy with riches but has much less desire for them himself. Besides a toilet set of gold, Gatsby's bedroom is plain and simple.  Gatsby initially tells Nick that he grew up in a wealthy family of Oxford graduates in the Midwest. He claims he inherited his money after his parents tragic death. Then, after loosing it all in the economic panic of WW1 he earned it back from success in the oil and pharmaceuticals industries. he also claims to have attended Oxford like his parents and had great success.

In reality, James Gatz grew up on a small farm in North Dakota. He attended a community college for a few weeks by paying for the education by being a janitor at the school. He sailed the World with a wealthy man named Dan Cody, where he learned how rich people behave. After Dan's death James most likely obtained his wealth through illegal business with New York's Jewish Mob. Gatsby wants her to say this exact phrase because he wants to change the past and erase the fact that Daisy and Tom had once been in love. Nick enjoys being around Jordan but he doesn't seem to be in love with her because he doesn't seek out time to spend with her. He had locked up Myrtle in the top floor of the garage and he said he would not let her leave until they went to the West Coast. Myrtle is able to escape and when she does she runs outside and sees Tom's car. Gatsby and Daisy are in the car but Myrtle thinks it is Tom. The entire story is told after all the events happened. In the book Nick says, "Gatsby in the green light, the orgastic future that year by year recedes before us". Before the American dream was widespread to the poorest of the poor, many were happy with simply having a job rather than being a corporate executive. Desires are what fuels people's motivation and completing goals is what creates dopamine and satisfaction.
