What adaptations have you made in your classroom or instruction to address this student's particular difficulties? What are your plans for additional intervention or scaffolding?

The targeted student can struggle to connect multiple representations; equation, graph, table and the mathematical properties shared between representations in order to determine how they interact or move. Creating visual examples for the word wall and connecting representations to operations could be helpful. Additionally, giving students plenty of time with computer programs and paper practice to see the interaction between the representations in the same lessons.

The targeted student can struggle with metacognition strategy development to express what is already known and use this to explore different strategies. Currently in the classroom we use math talks, number talks, and problem strings to explore different ways to solve problems. The instructional approach asks small groups and the whole class to come up with different ideas for solving accessible (familiar) problems. This is a high demand discussion activity. I plan to provide many opportunities to use manipulatives and draw pictures to show thinking. This looks like having whiteboards available, task cards, and modeling how to show thinking using pictures and adding thought bubbles.
