In 33CE, Jesus was crucified which led to the downfall of Christianity and much of the Mediterranean being occupied by the Roman Empire. The Roman Empire lasted from 27 BCE to around 475 CE. As the Mediterranean sea was situated in the centre of all the countries, trade routes were accessible by boat to the different regions surrounding the Mediterranean coastline. Trading by foot or animal was another method of trade, usually for horter distance travel. People in these places communicated with each other in many languages including Latin, Greek and Hebrew. There were many different cultures and religions in the different Mediterranean regions, including those who believed in Christianity and Judaism. Some of the main Mediterranean regions and major cities which the Romans inhabited include; Italy, Syria, Greece, Spain, France, and the North-most points of Africa. Within these regions were the main cities that had been impacted by the invasion of the Romans. Macedonia, Tarsus, Antioch and Damascus were just some of the major cities.

Saul of Tarsus was a person who berated and persecuted Christians, and on his journey to do so, he had an encounter with Jesus. After Jesus had opened Saul's mind and heart to the acceptance of Christians, Saul converted to Christianity and became St Paul. He began spreading the beliefs of the Christianity to everyone of all ethnicities and religions. The impact of Paul had been very significant, however at first people were extremely unsupportive and negative towards Paul and his actions and promotion of christianity, however it didn't stop him from communicating his message to anyone and everyone. This period of Paul's new life had not only made him a better person, but also assisted others to help themselves and experience the change of Christianity. In around 300 CE Christians stopped being persecuted and their wide-spread religion of Christianity was being accepted thanks to the efforts and impact of St Paul and his message. Jesus took care of everyone who followed in the Christian faith and accepted everyone in the community.

The purpose of the letters St Paul wrote to the Gentile Churches was to encourage them to have faith in God through times of struggle. He wrote them for a range of audiences who lived in a range of different places across the Mediterranean. Paul's epistles were targeted to individuals and communities or churches who seeked his guidance. Paul wrote letters to: Romans, 1 Corinthians, 2 Corinthians, Galatians, Ephesians, Philippians, Colossians, Thessalonians 1 and Thessalonians 2. All of these communities were going through times where they were unsure of their decisions and needed support from God through St Paul

While he was enraged by the Jewish law implemented concerning Gentiles to convert to Christianity, Paul's wrote an epistle to the Galatian community. This law that caused Paul's anger, challenged his religious upbringing and culture and as he was brought up as a Jew and followed all jewish practices such as circumcision, which Paul received as a child and he did not approve the new law that Gentiles will be circumcised to become Christians. Paul felt culturally challenged, as he believed that this went against the Jewish religion and his culture shouldn't involve or concern gentile Christians, all you need to do is have faith in God and be kind to all creation.

In the identified passages of the epistle of the Galatians, the message Paul was raising in regards to the Jewish law and the circumcision of Gentile Christians expressed that in order to convert to a Christian, you must love and have trust in God through displaying qualities that he would demonstrate rather than following a strict law not even of the religion they are choosing to follow. As stated in Galatians 3:11 "The one who is righteous will live by faith.” This means that if you live by faith and not law, you will succeed. Pauls messages throughout these passages are very influential for individuals and groups of people today, as it sets an example of behaviours and values to strive to uphold in daily life. Specifically, the different types of religions in todays churches all come together to celebrate their faith and not be divided by laws
