Relational and place-based pedagogies are foundational to my practice. I am influenced by the Reggio Emilia approach to relationship building between educators, children and families. I believe parents should be respected as children’s first teachers and encouraged to participate actively in the classroom to foster a sense of belonging.


Building on the concepts of equity pedagogy, critical reflection and social justice I will consider how my practices include, exclude or silence children and families.  I acknowledge and seek to understand First Nations perspectives and frameworks such as the 8 ways framework.

I believe every child is a competent, agentic citizen of their community. My image of the child, views children as naturally curious with unique qualities and capabilities. I value childhood as a time for being present and being, not solely as time for preparation. In my practice I will support learning through play by providing rich and diverse experiences that allow for interactions with peers, resources and environments. I believe play is essential and valuable for all children.

I view my role as a Teacher in the classroom as a co-constructor, investigator and guide in learning. I plan deliberately, thoughtfully and purposefully to create an intentional curriculum that provides rich opportunities for play and interaction. I view becoming as a journey, not as a fixed point. I view the learning environment as the third teacher, providing children with a diverse range of open-ended resources. I believe that through deep reflection and pedagogical documentation I can develop better understandings of the children I work with. I acknowledge that all children should be represented and given a voice.
