Cause: After General Robert E. Lee defeated the Union in Virginia he led his troops through Suspuehanna to Gettysburg to invade the North .

Effect: After the Union defeated the Confederate in the battle of Gettysburg the Union sealed the victory of the civil war and also the fight for slavery .

Connection: Becasue of the win in Gettysburg and the ending of slavery in the Confederate states it led the the Reconstruction which led to big debates on slavery. This led to the the making of the 13th and 14th Amendments later on .

Description : During the Reconstruction president Abraham Lincoln made the 13th amendment the first of 3 which banned chattel slavery in all territories unless given as punishment .

Cause: After the Civil War the US government went into a " Reconstruction" which was needed to determine what to do with the newly freed slaves .

Effect: It greatly helped the newly freed slaves by giving them laws that would protect there freedom long term.

Connection: After the 13th Amendment were passed then came along more laws that were put into the Constitution that would help the newly freed slaves have protection like the 14th and 15th amendment.

Description : During the Reconstruction president Andrew Johnson ratified a law that with the 14th amendment granted citizenship to all persons born or naturalized in the United States. It was the 2nd of 3 Amendments passed during the Reconstruction that was in favor of the newly freed slaves .

Cause: After the Civil War the U.S government had to figure out a new policy for the newly freed slaves to place them into society and for them to coexist in with other Americans.

Effect: This law that was passed greatly helped newly freed slaves have a way to refer to rights that they and other Americans were given . To defend themeselves and to place themselves in society .

Connection: After the 14th Amendment was passed newly freed slaves got closer to being more comfortable and to fend off against unwilling Americans who don't accept the new change . This law has helped many people long term with the other 3 Amendments giving American citizens laws that could protect them .
