         <description><![CDATA[<div>In <em>Dutch</em>: '<strong>gezag'. </strong>This refers to seeing ('zag' is the past tense of 'zien', which is close to the English 'to see'). So the connotation is one of someone to which people look up. Interestingly, the related attitude of someone who is under authority is '<strong>gehoorzaamheid' </strong>(obediency). This in turn refers to 'horen', i.e. listening to (to hear). Hence, another sense is addressed.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Example from Turkish:  <br>In<strong><em> Modern</em></strong> Turkish, the counterpart of the word <strong>'student'</strong> is the word '<strong>öğrenci</strong>' which derives from the <strong>verb "öğren</strong><strong><em>mek</em></strong><strong> ( </strong><strong><em>to</em></strong><strong> learn)</strong>. So this  derivation makes the word 'öğrenci' like in the meaning of 'learner'. However,  here I would like to point out another<strong> word 'talebe' </strong>which is used by the older generations ( age 50,60, 70s) or 'conservative' people (probably its referral to the old empire). The point I want to make here is the philosophy behind these two words. In the word öğrenci, the person is in a position where evertyhing is given to him/her, implying a passive learning. However, in the <strong>word talebe </strong>(the word derives from <strong>the verb talip olmak meaning to demand something, to go after it</strong>), the person is the one who is after the learning, demanding it and trying to reach the knowledge that s/he wants to learn to acquire, implying a much more active position.  This could be an interesting example in terms of education or  philosophy of education in a different context.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Interest in Chinese is 兴（xing）趣（qv）. The word refers to the tendency that people want to know something or engage in certain activities, or the pleasant mood generated by engaging in those things. 兴（xing）refers to the joyful emotion and 趣（qv）means fun. <br>Besides, 趣（qv）has always been valued by Chinese artists(especially painting), but the meaning here is slightly different from just “fun”. Rather, it is considered to be the ultimate beauty of art with its implicit form and far-reaching artistic conception. (I think this aesthetic orientation to some extent represents an introverted and modest national character.)</div><div>Motivation can be the outcome of having interest. It is based on the need to understand and explore the outside world.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>In Spanish we have different words to refer to student/pupil and there is a frequent debate on which option is better. For example, “alumno” is a word that comes from the Latin word “alumnus” derived from <em>alĕre </em>which means “to feed”. “Alumno” is defined as a person who receives teaching from a teacher/school/university. Therefore, it might emphasize the idea of transmission of knowledge to someone who lacks it. An option people use instead of “alumno” is “estudiante” (student), it refers to a “person who study” or a “person who is doing studies in an educational institution”. People who defend this concept state that in contrast to “alumno”, “estudiante” assumes more proactivity from the person. Finally, there is a third concept, “educando”. “Educando” is a gerund of the verb <em>educāre (</em>‘to educate’). This word - used for example by Freire- is argued to emphasize the dynamical aspect of being in an educational relationship. There is no consensus, but usually they are used depending of the connotation coherent with certain educational perspective. Specially in educational policy or academic settings there is an active use of these different options.<br><br></div>]]></description>
