Children can take a picture of a model (either living or a malleable dummy) and then use that as a guide in their drawing. By using the picture as the top layer, and lowering transparency levels, the image will always stay whilst they draw acting like tracing paper. They could also set it as the bottom layer and draw on top of it.

The teaching of these concepts can be supported through the use of layers. A child can create a background in the same way they would paint or draw normally, painting the thing furthest away. After they can then draw the closest things on a separate layer for the foreground. This supports traditional painting too, where the same rules apply

Some apps and software allow you to play a recording of the piece as you created it. This provides unique opportunities for children to go back and critique not only their work, but also their methods. This would also allow them to see the progress they made, both from previous learning and in the lesson/activity itself.

Some apps include symmetry lines, where a mark will be replicated in the other half or quadrant of the page, symmetrical to the one just made. This also provides opportunities to support maths work.
