As I sat there and drank the last few drops of my drink, I heard my wife call out my name, “Rex” she shouted I went to go see what the matter was. All she wanted to tell me was that Jeanette and that stuck up rich boy David were coming along to have dinner with us in a couple of hours. I stood there and spoke to her for a while, asking her who invited him. She reminded me “it’s a family dinner Rex, David is part of the family” I stood there and looked at her with my eyebrows raised, “David Is just a faze, my mountain goat is too good for that thing”.

I trotted downstairs to go fix the old, brown broken door. Two figures jumped out of a bright yellow taxi and started heading down the dirty alle way that we call the driveway. I avoided eye contact I couldn’t look at this boy who has changed my daughter. I eventually gave in and looked up to the boy. “Can’t handle the heat?” I asked. The boy looked nervous and scared, “fancier every time I see you” I teased the Jeanette. I greeted my daughter and looked at the boy. “Nice nips”. I could tell he was nervous, his handshake so soft, no drive in the boy.

Off to the kitchen I went straight away to fetch the boy and I a drink. I heard my family conversing with the boy. All so happy, but I knew it was fake. I had never heard my wife talk to anyone like that before. I strutted back out with the drinks and offered him one, but he declined. I told him again in a quite aggressive voice “take the drink” and he did. Right there at that moment I knew the boy was scared. I looked into his eyes before walking away and he looked as if he were about to shed a tear.

After dinner I went out to speak to David after dinner, there was already tension in the air, I could tell David had a little too much to drink as he was slurring his words, but I was completely fine. I spoke to David about how all rich people are stuck up and rude and that they should give credit to those who aren’t as privileged. He walked away saying “let's agree to disagree”, but on behalf of the people I could not do that, I proposed him to a good old fashion arm wrestle which he declined like a scared cat. I taunted him saying he's going to walk away like a cat with its tail in between his legs, he soon gave in.

I threw everything off the table as hard as I could and gripped his hand firmly, it was on. I started strong overpowering the boy and starting to take him down I stared at Jeanette and believed that I was going to win” see no drive” I said to my little mountain goat. Out of nowhere, she started screaming ”kick his ass David, kick his ass”. The boy overpowered me, and it was over in no time. As I stood there with my elbow aching, I declared a left-handed rematch. There was still so much heat in the moment, I was frustrated the poor scared boy listened to my daughter and declined but was still running his mouth. “I’m ready for whatever you have to throw at me”. So, I jabbed the boy’s nose.

Everyone yelled at me. I had just punched that smart ass in the face, but I am a man of my word and that’s how I was raised, and everyone should’ve been raised that way as well. “He should learn to live to the things he says” I told them. Jeanette left telling me.“He’s not my boyfriend he’s, my fiancé.

I sat there in disbelief of what just occurred. When they left, I was in shock, “why did I do that” I questioned myself. But I remembered all those times I followed through with my words, and how Jeanette acted like he was such a tough boy. The look on Jeanette’s face. I wasn’t a good father I had let her down.
