The saz, also called bağlama,is a snare instrument that is one of the most famous instruments of Turkish origin. The history of the saz goes back to around the 11th century, when the Turks moved to Anatolia and Persia.

The saz contains a spherical resonance box with the sound hole at the bottom, a long neck with the tuning mechanism on the top and seven snares attached to the tuning mechanisms and the resonance box. The seven snares are in an order of two, two and three.

The saz produces a vibrating sound. The saz is often played in a fast rhythm when it expresses joy. When the saz is played slowly, it is often an emotional piece of music. There are many types of chords that can be used when playing saz. The chords you use depend on how you want it to sound. The most commonly used tuning is the A-G-D tuning, which is known as the baglama düzeni, or the baglama tuning order.

EXAMPLE
I
I
I
\/
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MW__jLSiK1Y

Ahmet Aslan was born in 1963 in the eastern of Turkey. In his young years he liked painting and became later also interested in making music. He also learned to play the Tembur (a Kurdish 3-stringed long-necked lute). After he finished his study in Istanbul he moved to Germany. Then he intensively started to play the acoustic guitar. Later he decided to start a career as solo Kurdish folk musician with some pop and jazz influences.
>>>> Ahmet Aslan
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uqROdKnNfQk
