This was one of her biggest struggles in her childhood. One of the biggest causes of her depression was increased isolation in her home. In the theme of spirituality, many of her poems spoke about her love of God and her yearning to be with Him. Her faith was a major part of her healing of depression and isolation. She often prayed and wrote about Him in her journals. 
Her poem "Echo" she yearns to be with God and describes in detail about her thoughts and feelings to wanting to be with God and in His Kingdom. She suffered from Grave's disease, which affects the thyroid. But she ultimately died of breast cancer which was later diagnoses after her battle with Grave's disease.
Rossetti was survived by her older brother William Michael, who compiled and edited her complete poems which was published in 1979.
