The discussant presented the subject matter clearly. The different research approaches discussed will enable you to evolve a proper strategy to carry out a definite work or project without digging too much into unnecessary things and take the right decision when the situations demand. In order for a researcher to conduct the research at scale, easily compare different groups (by age, gender, to name a few) to understand similarities or differences, reduce a complex problem or topic to a limited number of variables quantitative research should be used. Qualitative work deals mainly on social constructionism and interpretation. Whether it is quantitative or qualitative it is a fact that without research, one has to believe in his or her intuition or imagination which cannot be accurate. That is why research is important for scaling up performance and getting better results.

Through the lecture of Dr. Thien, I realized that the research model or conceptual framework does not only provide a visual representation of the variables of the study and their cause-and-effect relationships but it clearly shows how to formulate the hypotheses. Moreover, I learned that every cause-and-effect relationship that is depicted in the conceptual framework must be supported by a testable theory that should be verified based on the result of the study.

It’s good to reflect and reviewed about the basics of research. So nice to hear from the speaker Dr Thien’s very insightful sharing yesterday. Hoping that this will trigger me to focus more about the research production that our University is aiming for….
