Theme : Transportation
Objective: : exploration with paint
Early literacy exposure: green, blue, soft, sticky
Experience: painting with a toy car
Scene: Tr had already explained the nature of the experience to the infant.
Infant( 16 months old) was seated on a low chair , car in hand ‘ ready for the experience. Teacher had placed 4 ‘squirty’ bottles of paint so that the infant could make a choice of Colour.
Tr: ( Name of infant), which Colour would you like to use?
Infant: ( non verbal) as he pointed to the green Colour.
Tr: You would like the green colour?
Infant: nodded
Tr: Alright then, we will need to squirt some of this paint on the paper so that you could paint with your car ! !
Tr did a demo to show infant how it is done.
Tr: Would you like to do it yourself?
Infant: Yes ( as he smiled while at the same time stretched his two hands to receive the bottle. He tilted the bottle nozzle pointing down to the art block.
He squeezed hard ( could see the expression on his face) at the bottle with his two small hands but only a small blob of paint flowed out.
He looked at teacher and shook his head .
Tr: Try again ( which he did and nothing much happened)
Infant: ( as he looked at teacher again)!said ‘cannot ‘ ( not clear) as he shook his head simultaneously.
Tr : You need me to help you?
Infant: nodded and passed the bottle to teacher. ….
Together , we squeezed the paint out onto the art block . The infant ran the car slowly on the paint occasionally looked at the paint on his hand .
Tr: Is the paint soft ?
Infant : nodded and continued with his experience, noticeably enjoying from the focus he showed .
Tr: Is it sticky?
Infant: continued in his focus with the play.
Tr: It’s green , the paint is green
Infant tried to say the word after tr.
Tr: ( Name) , would you like another Colour ? ( while pointing to the paints).
Infant: nodded and pointed to the blue .
Tr: You have chosen blue . Say ,’ blue’
Infant : imitated after teacher.
Tr squirted the colour blue onto the art block and infant carried on with the exploration for awhile more.

Activity Type: Big Group Activity

Scene: The cupcakes have already been mixed and baked in the oven. The cupcakes were presented to the children, who were seated in a circle. Having mixed the different coloured cupcake batter into the cupcake liner.

The children were encouraged to talk about the cupcakes.

Child: The cupcakes are ready! Can eat already.

Teacher: Why couldn’t we eat it before, when we mixed the batter just now? (Infer)

Child: Because we never cook!

Child: Because we never put in the oven!

Teacher: We used five colours in making the cupcakes. Let’s name the colours together. (Recall)

Child: Red, yellow, green, blue…

Child: Violet! Just like the rainbow.

The cupcakes were arranged in the number “6” in the middle of the circle.

Child: Why you put the cupcakes like that, Teacher Ain?

Child: Look like the number six!

Teacher: Very good! Why did I put the cupcakes into the number six? What’s so special about the number six? What special day are we celebrating today? (Recall)

Child: Little Preschool birthday!

Child: Little Preschool is six years old, that’s why Teacher Ain make the number six. (Explain)

Child: Teacher Ain put the cupcake like that, become 6. Turn the other way round, become 9.

Teacher: You’re right, because you’re looking at the cupcakes from another way.

Teacher: We’re going to try the cupcakes now, what do you think they’ll taste like?

Child: Because just now it smell so nice, I think the cupcake taste yummy! (Explain why)

Child: I also want to make rainbow cupcakes at home.

Child: Must have oven at home, then can make the rainbow cupcakes.

Child: Need the egg and sugar also.

Teacher: What other ingredients do you need? Since you want to make the rainbow cupcakes, do you need anything special?

Child: Food colouring! Or not cannot see the rainbow.

Teacher: Where can we put it and feel the flour?
Child think and took some and put his face and then on the feet.

Child: Walk walk as he pointed on the floor that has flour.

Teacher: We can also sing songs while stepping and walking on the flour.

Child continued to do together and tried to even grasp some flour and throw.

Child: Maybe we can help to pull it off.

Teacher: But remember, baby stick insects are very fragile. What do you think will happen if we pull it? (Analyze)

Child: The leg will come off then later the insect will be left with five legs only.

Teacher: You're right. What can we do to to soften the dead skin? (Evaluate, Create)

Child 2: I know, we can put some water!

Teacher: How should we do that? (Create)

Child: We can use a paintbrush like last time I saw you use a wet paintbrush to remove the egg that is stuck on the stick insect's leg.

Children went out for a short walk in the morning after heavy rain last night.

Teacher sings “hows the weather today?”
Children sings along, one child saw a puddle of water on the pavement. he points at it and his friends came over to see what it was.

Child: teacher look!

Teacher: oh. What did you see?

Child: water! Water here!

Teacher: why is there a water?

Child paused for a while and think, he then proceeded to ask a friend

Child: water come where? (body gesture asking)

Child B: points on the droplets of water that he had found on the bushes and says “there”

Teacher: wow great job looking for more water! where else could we find water around our neighbourhood?

The children continued to look for more source of water until they see a tap nearby.

The children continued to look for more sources of water outdoors with their friends and played with the puddle of water.
