The main character is a little boy named, Bruno. A few traits I like about Bruno is that he's very adventurous, and sometimes, not afraid to speak his mind. He's quite young, but still very clever and curious about what's beyond Out-with, which isn't necessarily a bad thing. In the book, he tells other people that he is adventurous, and wants to be an adventurer when he grows up. He's quite a clever boy, because I'm assuming he's home schooled, because there is never any mention of Bruno going to school at Out-With. Bruno is very curious about why there are people, all dressed up in striped pajamas beyond his window.

A few things I find quite dis likable about him, is that he's clever, but doesn't think some actions through. In the book, we see that Bruno has made a tyre swing, and ends up falling off and injuring himself. This shows he isn't the most aware of his surroundings> Another things I dislike about Bruno is that, he often blurts or is too confident he'll get his way. He complains that Out-With is too deary, and that the whole family should move back. He almost expects his family to agree with him.He also thinks that Pavel is just a cook/gardener, and didn't think that he used to practice medicine. Gerta, Fritz and their mom are stuck on the East side while her dad and Dominic are stuck on West side. The East side is controlled by the Soviets. While the West side is freedom. I think Bruno feels that he should be included in the adult conversations but the adults know he is to young. I feel like he is getting tired of these excuses and just wants a straight awnser from someone about why they are there and all about the huts and the people in pj's.

Even though Bruno seems like a nice kid, I dislike that he kinda takes things for granted and how he sorta acts like he is in control all the time. One example from the book to support this idea, is when they first arrived at out-with, Bruno was telling his mother that if they left now, they would make it back in time for Tea time. He seems a little ungrateful like everyone in the world revolves around him. 
In all, I like how he is curious but I am not fond of the fact that he thinks it's all about him.
