Though art may sometimes feel like it is a singular thing, it can be anything beyond your wildest beliefs. Art is no longer a renaissance painting on the wall, art is sculpture, art is interactive, and art is all around you. Join me today in this message board to explore an artwork found at the Whitney in NYC called, "To Organize Delirium" by Hèlio Oiticica. Where art will no longer feel repetitive, it will feel new and exciting.

My thoughts on Helio Oiticica's To Organize Delirium By Matt Mesiano

The art exhibit by Helio Oiticica at the Whitney Museum of American Art is an interesting collection of pieces by the Brazilian born artist. As I do not know much about art, at first glance, I did not know what to make of all the different parts of his exhibit. Once I watched the videos and listened to the commentaries of all the different pieces, everything started to make sense. I was able to enjoy and appreciate what I was looking at once I had some background information of the environment that Oiticica was part of.

One of the pieces that I liked the most was the Rijanviera, like everything else this piece did not appeal to me until I listened to the narration and understood where Helio was coming from. I can see the connection from his life in this piece. Being able to walk through the sand, and into the tight room with the water, and then back out into the sand, is a nice representation of how he moved from Brazil to NY, and then back.

Overall, I enjoyed looking at all the pieces of this exhibit. It is an interesting view of Helio Oiticica’s life. Like I said earlier, knowing his history makes this exhibit much more meaningful. I have never been a fan of installation art, but I would be interested in seeing this in person, since the videos don’t give you the sensory input of the different works.
