In order to discuss about globalization we first have to get an understanding on what it is

Globalization is integration among the people, government and companies of different countries (Rothenberg, 2003). Another definition came from a book by the name of 'Globalization and Neoliberalism: The Caribbean Context' globalization can be viewed as a process of international integration that defines the present and future economic reality. This economic control spans worldwide bringing local and national economies into one unregulated market economy. It is as if everybody came together under one law. This 'law' however was then separated into different categories depending on the situation at hand. the classes are economic, cultural and political types of globalization. These types are now influenced by a number of factors, such as, trade, transaction, capital and investment movements, migration and movement of people and the dissemination of knowledge according to the International Monetary Fund in 2000. This now brings about influence, an influence that can increase depending on how much influence one holds among the factors. In this way, whoever holds the most has the most influence, correct?

With regards to the same ant analogy, joining the larger colony would ensure one's safety and a wider network to integrate oneself into. Who would not want to be secured and ensure their comfort, the only downside is you will have to obey the one law with with little degrees of freedom. Considering the benefits it might not be so bad. everything is under one roof so why not stay with the economy that is most integrated?

Consider the scenario of you being an ant, a single ant wanting food but the food is held by an entire colony, one which you are not apart of .
What are you to do but join right? Now consider you have another option to form your own very colony. Your standing in the beginning would be tough but you would have a greater degree of freedom compared to that of being under one colony with an absolute law.If you disagree with something there can be discussions on that topic. Being independent has both pros and cons. In terms of quantity the cons weigh in more but in terms of the quality of pros you would come out better. With this organisations such as the Caribbean Community (CARICOM), Caribbean Single Market Economy (CSME) and Caribbean Tourist Organization (CTO) were formed.

Question: In today’s world of globalization, do efforts at Caribbean integration still have any relevance for Caribbean development, or should we all aspire to be citizens of the global village?

Being a part of the Caribbean allows me to appreciate what Caribbean integration is and what it stands for. I can understand what it means to have your own identity and your own freedom but the economy and different factors are ever dynamic and if where you reside can not keep up with the speed of evolution one can only be left behind. Since this case is presented I understand the viewpoints of individuals wanting to still uphold Caribbean integrations but as the world revolves around the sun, time waits for no man. That being said, joining the global village will carry those forward in time with it and allow those stuck in time the opportunity to join the movement.
