Video games today are now seen in homes all over the world, but little did you know that video games began being made in the labs of scientists! Video games began being made around the 50s. In 1952, British professor A.S. Douglas created OXO, or tic-tac-toe. And later in 1958, William Higinbotham created Tennis for Two on a large analog computer, which is similar to the game Pong. People have been trying to create video games since the 50’s and so far it has been an amazing invention.

The first video games originated during the 50s. In October of 1958, Physicist William Higinbotham created what is believed to be the first video game, Tennis for Two. This is similar to the classic 1970s game Pong. But video games did not start to become recognized until 1962, when Steve Russell at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology invented SpaceWar!, which was the first video games that allowed to be played on multiple computers.

So, people have used video games in many different ways, such for competitive tournaments and educational purposes.. To begin, competitive tournaments started around the 70s, but did not become a world-wide competition until the 2000s. There are now lots of tournaments based specific games rewards to the winner. Games are also used for educational purposes as they can now be used to help a student in school with math, english, science, history, and so much more. Nowadays, because of the technology, teachers can now teach students the material in a more fun and creative environment. For example, ABCmouse.com, helps children ages 2-8 in their education. People also use video games as a way to relax and release stress.

What were the major changes of video games or how did it evolve?

As video games have been evolving, different ways to play video games have come up. the invention of video games started as arcade type games such as Pong and Spacewar!, then it led to home consoles. After home consoles, they led to PC’s and handheld consoles like gameboy and the nintendo ds. This went to mobile games and newer consoles with better graphics. Video games also had a major change in its style of play. For example, early adventure type video games used text to create worlds for the player to explore. This was a big change in its form of use because if not then we would all be typing in video games.Another major change would be the way video games were played back then. Before they had such simple controllers and buttons, which were only able to move certain functions of the game, but now we have such complex controllers that allow to move a lot at once.

Video games have become more complex with how they're made, for example, the coding, the designing, the production team. All of this is just as important as the player liking the game and buying it. This fits within the threshold of increasing complexity, such as the big bang, the stars light up, and the modern revolution because every year new technology and new people comes our way and improves, not all the time, everything that makes up a video game. For example, maybe a new intern got into game designing and he might be the biggest game designer in the world or a new piece of technology comes to the market and improves the way games are played.

The US spends about 109 billion dollars on video games and predicting that it will hit 27.5 billion. And also as of 2017, China now has become the world's biggest player of video games. They are are also huge in other countries such as, Spain, Germany, Japan, France, etc. Women represent a huge and growing segment of the gamer community. Video games offer a great way for parents to connect with their children and about 59% of parents play with games with their children at least weekly. Nearly half of the U.S. population — 155 million people — play video games, and four out of five households own a game-playing device. nearly half of the U.S. population — 155 million people — play video games, and four out of five households own a game-playing device. The video game industry is so big that last year, more people (27 million) watched the League of Legends Season 3 World Championship, an esports competition, than the deciding game of the NBA Finals (18 million). None of this would've been possible if it weren't for collective learning and the industrial revolution. These two factors helped video games grow and influence our modern culture today.
