Slavery

Slavery is a big idea in Huckleberry Finn. Jim was a slave and broke free from his owners, his everyday struggles, then met Huck. Jim's social status and life was changed when he left and started a new life with his loyal friend. Being a slave was his background, it was what he came from. But even though it was all he knew, he didn't let it hold him back from achieving his dream life. While slavery isn't a main topic of the book and is only in the beginning, it still serves a strong purpose and is Jim's past. "Racism - Google Search". Google.com. N. p., 2016.
Loyalty

Lions are a universal symbol of loyalty. Loyalty brings Huck and Jim on this crazy adventure. It's constantly displayed throughout the novel and is a theme. Huck, though not a slave or even a minority, is Jim's best friend and stays a loyal friend until the end. When they both leave their homes and start something new, they do not leave each others side, but they endure whatever life throws at them. Loyalty is considered an underlying them of this book, because it isn't flat out said or evident, but still is a main idea and has a reason. Huckleberry Finn's loyalty to Jim is very attention-grabbing considering his past. "Lion - Google Search". Google.com. N. p., 2016. Web. 28 Sept. 2016.

Both Huckleberry and Jim must have had a lot of strength to forget the past, move on and begin a new chapter of their lives. They both came from hardships and unhealthy living conditions, and they both had a goal to have a free life. Huckleberry and Jim have different strengths that compliment each other. Huck is persistent, willing, and forgiving. While Jim is strong, honest, and courageous. They also gain mental and emotional strength when undergoing tests of honesty, loyalty, and endurance. Huck finds strength in integrity and gets the sisters their money and property back. "Strength - Google Search". Google.com. N. p., 2016. Web. 28 Sept. 2016.

Jim and Huck's friendship keeps them together and is what the book becomes about later on. Their relationship is loyal, strong, free, and new. They lean on one another when needed, and depend on each other. They help each other start a new life and get away from the harmful things they endured. Huckleberry, though not very educated, thinks through problems and uses intellect while Jim is not as complex and utilizes strength to his ability. They are successful in escaping their old lives and taking on a brand new chapter. Together they accomplish the close to impossible and overcome the struggles and disabilities.

Huck was fed up with his father, and Jim was fed up with slavery. Huck was fed up with Ms. Watson, while Jim was fed up with his owner. Together they conquered their pasts and took on a new life of freedom. Through all the troubles and obstacles they ace, they still move froward and away from their past, focusing on what's ahead of them. They went after their dreams even though Huck was a boy and Jim was a freed slave. The left everything behind because they valued a better life so much more. There were easier ways out, and faster ways to get away but they knew exactly what they wanted so they took the challenge head on."The Past - Google Search". Google.com. N. p., 2016.
