Reverted areas are areas that were once owned by the United States in Panama that ceased to be owned by the United States in the turnover of the canal to Panama in December 1999. These reverted areas, while in the possession of the United States, were used for numerous military bases and homes for employees and families that worked in the Panama Canal that spread through 932 km of land, which was later turned over to Panama, including 6,700 structures with it. Homes with yards, lots of green areas, mature trees and parks, schools, medical and vet clinics, grocery stores, banks, churches, post offices, movie theaters, a shopping mall, domestic airport and bus terminal, and very quick and easy access to and from Panama City. Basically everything that one could need for everyday living. When the reverted areas were given to Panama it became a place where both foreigners and locals built their homes to live in. In these areas it is not uncommon to find wildlife such as parrots, nieques, armadillos, white tailed deer, monkeys, anteaters and coatimundis.
