In this logo, we have decided to use the colours red, black and white. We have used these colours because they all have a meaning behind them. We have chosen red as one of the colours because it symbolizes leadership, courage, fierceness and determination. Black symbolizes power, elegance, and formality. Lastly white, which symbolizes purity and light. In the image, the top half of the logo is white and the mountain ranges in the middle are black. Also, the bottom half of the wolf and the koru is red. The chosen colours for our logo represents us as a whanau. We are fierce, determine and pure. The colours represent our values and who we are. Overall red, black and white work well together, are also the national Maori colours and represents us as a whanau.

Symbolism

We have used various symbolic points that represent mountains. We have used a wolf, a koru, and a sun setting behind the mountains. We have used a wolf because a wolf symbolizes guardianship, loyalty, and spirit. A koru represents new growth, peace, and strength. The sun setting behind the mountains symbolizes the end of a hard day at work. In the image, the wolf is the dominant image. The koru which resembles the sun is placed behind the mountains which run throughout the wolf starting at the neck area and continuing through to the tail. This is a significant logo to mountains as this represents loyalty, spirit, peace, strength and hardworking and all of these qualities surely apply to mountains. This logo does look like an ordinary wolf but if looked at carefully it surely has a deeper meaning to it than you may assume.

Negative Space & Dominant Image

In this logo the dominant image is a wolf, we have also used negative space to create mountain peaks. We have used mountain ranges as we are the mountains whanau. our current whanau logo has a mountain in it as well so we decided to incorporate this concept. We chose to do a wolf because we thought this describes mountains perfectly. This is located under the black mountain peaks in the colour red. We've used the wolf as an outline of our main shape. The impact of our logo on other people show how determined and loyal we are, it also boosts our self esteem and motivates us. We think that this was a great idea for us to use this as negative space because it clearly represents mountains and anyone would be able to recognize it easily. All in all the dominant image is related to mountains whanau in certain aspects. In our opinion, this works well with the rest of our logo and makes the logo very easily recognized.

Unification of Logo

We unified our logo by using a slogan and an image. This was done to create a balance between the dominant image and slogan. We have placed the slogan under the dominant image. We have used the slogan under the picture because people read from left to right or from the top to the bottom and you only remember the first and last thing you see. As in the logo attracts people because of the way it is structured and after they see the logo the slogan is seen at the bottom.

Typeface/Slogan:

In our logo we have used the slogan "Its not the mountain we conquer but ourselves." By Sir Edmund Hillary. The typeface we have used is 'Impact' in the colour black. The reason we used this slogan is because this is our whanau slogan for the past couple of years. We have also chosen the certain typeface is because it complemented our slogan. The slogan is located under the wolf in bold. The slogan goes perfectly with the rest of our whanau theme relating to Sir Edmund Hillary, the first person to climb mount Everest. Overall, the slogan is an important part which was necessary.
