Sadly i was unable to download the photo in time, as i don’t have my camera here with me.
I took this photo about 2 years ago in Ercolano, a small town in the province of Naples, where, as in Pompeii the lava from Vesuvius has covered the city in 79 AD, frighteningly preserving houses, works of art but above all, those who where once inhabitants.
People hid there in those sort of cages waiting for help, but the lava arrived first.
This photo to me is an exact representation of Burke’s definition of sublime, as it describes fear, danger, pain, loss, all of it brought by the uncontrollable grandeur of nature.

I think that as much as this image representing nature is scary, at the same time, it "takes your breath away" because of its beauty.
For me this painting represents together the fear, the surprise and the admiration for the nature.
A nature so vast that the man is a nothing in relation/compare.

I took this photo during my last journey abroad and I when I was there I remember thinking and also "vibing" a strange feeling: no metter how do you feel, how much you could be in pain (physically and/or emotional), what thoughts are going through your mind, the sun will always rise day after day.
In fact I was on the other side of the world and the sun was rising like every other day of my life (of course in a spectacular way from that point of view).

This is Dan Herschlein's ' The Architect '.
Herschlein is one of my favourite contemporary visual artists as his works effortlessly depict the deep-rooted, ingrained gloomy and disheartened nature of the human being in all of its defenseless silence. We tend to forget that we are part of the natural world, therefore human's mind and unconscious can also be considered ' Sublime ' following Burke's definition of the word itself as what goes deep down into our minds is incomprehensible, fascinating and yet frightful. I think that all of Herschlein's installations fall into this definition of the bound between control and nature; we are not only powerless in front of rivers and seas, but also in front of ourselves and the complexity of our minds.

For me this photo is sublime, because on the one hand it terrifies and unsettled me because he was a serial killer who raped and killed about 20 people, but at the same time I am fascinated by all this because I am curios to know the stories of people who have committed these crimes and why they did it.
He, Richard ramirez, for example,didn't have an easy childhood at all and he lived through episodes that led him to be so violent and he also became a Satanist.

I chose this image because in my opinion it embodies all the characteristics that something must have to be considered as sublime traditional. In fact, this image conveys serenity, tranquility, freedom and lightheartedness. I also find that Monet’s house is one of the places that I would like to visit too much and where you will spend a day of carefree in the midst of this fantastic unspoiled nature.

I don't know if I have understood the sublime message, but for me something that scares but fascinates are dreams;

because you don't know if they will come true and this arouses fear, but at the same time you keep chasing them because only they fascinate you so much that you continue to live for something.

They'll be that thing you'll keep chasing despite everything, even if you don't know how it's going to end, you're scared, but you're happy to have it.

For me that’s sublime. I can imagine this moment in a dream. In this photo i’m with my dog, and every time I see it I remember the beauty of the freedom of nature and I see an endless road and me running and jumping endlessly. That concept of sublime make’s me happy, I want this type of freedom forever in my life! :)

Burke says that the best word to describe the sublime is astonishment, for this reason I decided to choose this painting that seems almost magnetic from which I can not take my eyes off. It is one of those paintings that every time you look at it you notice something new and hidden.

I believe that the starry sky is a definition of sublime because it makes us realize how small and unique we are in the universe. this can give a sense of importance as well as fear.

I took this photo at the Jago exhibition in Bologna.
The first baby, this is the name of the tiny white baby, is a particularly special work: it is, in fact, the first sculpture sent by an artist into space. During the European Space Agency's Beyond mission in 2019, the marble child (which weighs only 200 grams) was delivered to the Italian astronaut Luca Parmitano. JAGO had already signed the work, leaving a fingerprint imprinted in blood.

The sculpture remained in space for the entire duration of the mission (almost seven months) achieving a unique record of its kind. And, at the same time, full of meaning. "The first baby" is sublime because is the symbol of a new generation that is born and breathes in the future, frightening, vast and unknown like the galaxies that make up the universe.
