Jayda: Panfilo was born in Valladolid, Spain in 1470. Panfilo's crew survived a hurricane on the way to Florida. They soon landed on the coast of Florida, and asked the people still on the ship to meet the crew at a spot in northern Florida. This mistake of having the ship carrying everything that they needed to survive, sent of alone was not Panfilo's and his crew's brightest idea. The crew waited for a very significant amount of time for the ship to return to them after they explored. The ship was sadly never seen again. The crew was left with very few resources, and were inside of a harsh environment. The crew sewed together shirts for sails, and used logs to start making rafts. These rafts would not do a very good job of transporting Panfilo's crew. Three of the rafts would sink on this journey across the gulf of mexico and many died. Panfilo himself died on the long journey across the gulf of mexico. There were only 80 living crew members left that made it to the shore. Without an expedition leader, sickness and lack of food soon killed many of the few surviving crew. They wanted to walk to mexico city. This was yet another not well planned idea. Many of the crew were enslaved by native Americans on the way to Mexico city, and other native Americans proved to be kind and helpful to the desperate crew. Only 4 men survived the long walk. Then the surviving 4 were welcomed by Viceroy Antonio de Mendoza as soon as they reached Mexico city. One of the four crew members that had survived the long walk, died on a later expedition.

As a young man, De Soto made riches in the Central American slave trade, there he met an explorer called Pizarro. Pizarro wanted to make a fortune off of natives with great wealth in the Andes Mountains. De Soto paid for this exploration. During this expedition, the crew come across the leader of the Inca , Sapa Inca. Sapa became a great friend of De Soto's during his captivity. But Pizarro wanted Sapa dead. De Soto was furious at Pizarro, and returned to spain in 1536. While in spain, De Soto got married. De Soto convinced the king to give him rights to explore la Florida in the new world. De Soto left his family, and set out to reach the land of la Florida. As soon De Soto landed in la Florida, his crew started to look for riches in the new world. None were in the area, so they went further into america, to find that there were no riches there either, and before they knew it they had explored most of the southeastern region. His crew did not find great riches within the 4,000 miles of land that De Soto claimed for Spain, and explored. De Soto soon became sick at the end of his long journey, and died of a fever. His crew buried him in the Mississippi river to hide his death from the natives. If they had been careless about his death than tribes in the area would know that they had no leader, which meant that they would be easier to defeat. The expedition had failed, but did end up in about 1/4 of america becoming explored and claimed for Spain. Spain now owned 20% of the land on earth. Spain owned almost all of both Americas, but not Brazil (owned by Portugal) or the whole top half of america.
