I think that whenever you are choosing the right choice to follow your own personal legend, despite challenges like having your stuff chosen, it will show itself as a stroke of luck or something else.

The personal legend is the destiny of a person, at the beginning of everyone's life they find out their personal legend and their life is dedicated to completing that. For example, Santiago's personal legend is to travel, so when he was a kid he tried to find out a way he could travel and explore the world, eventually coming to the conclusion of being a shepherd. Santiago lived his whole life trying to fulfill his personal legend by finding the best way to get money and travel, but that's not how it is with everyone, most people give up on their dream and never complete their personal legend. My connection to this theme is fulfilling my dream of living in California.

In the book the crystal merchant believes the boy (Santiago) is a good omen, so he hires him to work in his crystal shop, this ends up making both of them more money and brings back memories for the crystal merchant of when the market on the hill where his shop is, was full of people. I look for omens in every aspect of my life, and in whatever I'm doing, I always try to make the best decisions based on all the information I am given.

I would say that everything in the book connects to one's personal legend in one way or another. Fate leads each of the characters down their personal legends, or at the very least, it gives them a glimpse of the method to fulfill it. Omens are the messages that help them through their journey. "The language of the world" is how characters with varying personal legends are able to understand each other. This book is built on the foundation of these "personal legends", and thus, everywhere you look is an example. To get more specific about how "personal legends" are shown in the book, you could look at the dynamic between Santiago and the Englishman. They both have different personal legends and follow omens through different means. For example, Santiago prefers observing the caravan while the Englishman prefers his books. Despite all of this, they understand each other's desires and respect each other's journey because of the "language of the world". Their personal legends were the catalyst for this understanding. It's fair to say that I can relate to the characters in the book (or at least understand where they're coming from) because of my own "personal legend".

Santiago's personal legend was made clear to him by the King, and he now realizes the reason he lives is to go and find treasure by the pyramids of Egypt. My connection to this theme is my love for soccer. It was made clear to me that my Personal Legend was to play soccer by my dad. At a young age he introduced me to it and I've loved it ever since. Santiago speaks on obstacles you face when in pursuit of your Personal Legend, and I think I am beginning to face a few. However, knowing that soccer gives me a purpose I will work to get better.

In the Alchemist, there is a crystal merchant that has a dream to fulfil the fifth obligation of going on a Pilgrimage. The journey itself takes a lot of money and that's why he works hard everyday but then, he has seen people poorer than him go on that journey. He says the reason behind not going is that after his journey, he wouldn't know what to work hard for anymore. I feel like I resonate with him because it's hard to find reasons to work hard for it they're fulfilled.

None the less, Santiago learns life lessons and work his way up to make money to get lots of flock. This shows that no matter how life treats you, everyone has to deal their own personal situations which end up their legend as their fate and lead them to their destiny where it aligns and go through experiences to keep pushing forward no matter how hard it is.
