Crab habitats are diverse, ranging from freshwater rivers and lakes to brackfish estuaries, saltwater oceans, and even land. They inhabit environments such as rocky shores, tidal marshes, sandy beaches, and mangrove forests, often digging burrows for shelter. Some species, like fiddler crabs and ghost crabs, are adapted to specific environments, while others, such as the coconut crab, can live far inland, returning to the sea only to breed.  

Crabs are omnivorous scavengers with diverse diets that include algae, seaweed, worms, clams, shrimp, squid, snails, mussels, small fish, and even other crabs. Some crab species are more carnivorous, while others, like hermit crabs, can also consume fruits and vegetables. Their diet varies depending on the species and their specific environment, as they will eat whatever they can find and catch, whether dead or alive. 

A crab's general specifications include a segmented, often hard, exoskeleton with a distinct carapace, five pairs of legs (the first being claws), and a short, hidden tail. They possess stalked, compound eyes and live in various environments, including oceans, freshwater, and land, relying on a process of molting to grow. 

A crab's body is characterized by a flat wide, and rounded shell (carapace) a short, folded abdomen (pleon) that tucks underneath for protection, and a tough, external shell called and exoskeleton. This compact, low-lying form, known as the crab-like body plan, is achieved through the evolutionary process of carcinization. 

Crabs are animals that belong to the crustacean group. They are found in oceans, rivers, and even on land. Crabs have a hard shell and are known for their two strong claws. There are thousands of species of crabs around the world, and each has different shapes, colors, and sizes.
