The Funny Thing About the American Dream by Carol Margolis

As you watch the video, comment on three things:
1. Choose a strategy that the speaker uses to make his point-- this can be a humorous moment, a shift in tone, a visual, etc.
2. Connect the message of the video to a character in Behold the Dreamers-- how (even at this early stage) might we see the conflicts emerging?
3. Comment on something else that struck you-- this can be a question or a comment.

1. He tries to use his comedic lines in order to humor the audience while proving his point of the american dream. Along with using visuals, showing pictures, or sentences.
2. The message of trying to achieve the american dream is what Jende is trying to get for his family. The conflicts are the attempts on helping your family while balancing work and friends all at once.
3. I found it interesting how he was trying to fit humor into his speech in order to get the audience to be comfortable with his points while he's talking.

1) The speaker uses humour to draw in the audience. By making people laugh, he is able to make sure that people are paying attention to what he's saying.
2) His message was that you can't have everything, but you can have some of it if you be yourself. Cindy worked really hard to get to where she is, but she ends up not feeling fulfilled with her life or marriage. Cindy just wanted to have wealth and power, and didn't have a dream to follow.
3) The speaker says that you should focus on the thing that makes you different, even if it does not line up with your dreams. I don't agree, I think you should focus on whatever it is that you want to do with your life.

He talks about ideals and stuff that normal people have that is in the American dream but Jende and Neni do not get to experience some of these things because they don't have the money for it
3. He kept talking about the 10 beats thing and that sort of stuck with me
