The challenge I chose was related to my struggle in mathematics. It takes me a while to understand it, meaning I had to find new ways to help myself outside of class. It taught me how to speak out and ask for help when I need it, without embarrassment.

We needed gas from somewhere and someone got the brilliant idea to go to Costco, and my mom put in the directions for I assume the nearest Costco. We drove there, noticing the red flags like the signs telling us that we were soon entering the Mexican Border, but none of my family thought we were actually going there.

What I would say is a unique experience would be the exposure of STEM related activities at a young age. In elementary, my school had a presentation on robotics. Since that time, I began constructing small robots from simple materials like tin cans or a rubber ball. This shaped me into gaining an interest in STEM. This also got me interested into repairing technology.

But the truth was, I didn’t. I struggled in those STEM classes, not because of a lack of effort, but because of a lack of passion. While I was five I was enrolled in a modeling and Acting agency so that I can show my expressive/creative and more joyous side. Working with all types of people and getting to know them taught me invaluable life skills. They helped me build confidence, to be more perceptive and to build courage to speak to others and myself. Learning memorization techniques, teamwork and how to effectively express/convey emotion to the camera to avoid exaggeration. I enjoyed it so much that it seemed less and less like a job and more of a hobby of sorts. While I work in the agency it helped influence me to think outside of the box insteading of looking at a situation under one light. This hobby contributed towards me to be more sociable and to try and build friendships, it relates to my major because they both involve entertainment and development.

Transitioning to online schooling was the greatest challenge in my life. As my motivation, confidence, and social skills decreased, I changed in front of my eyes. I have always been the kid to speak up and make friends, but I changed into someone who couldn't share my ideas, communicate in groups. Though this was a challenge that changed me, I met great people who helped me get out of my comfort zone and shape the person I am today.

I was just too shy to ask for help or bother others. Assuming that I would be a burden for others made me stay within my own space. Which challenged me for most of my life. Throughout my life, I've been in a sport that I didn't want to do due to the instructor that has been teaching me this specific sport. This instructor was always disrespectful towards students, including me, and that has made me not want to do the sport anymore, but I was still forced to do it and I cannot leave that studio. I realized I had to find the good in things that maybe cannot be changed or you can't leave it regardless, and now I became a teacher in volunteering myself to show others that this sport can be enjoyable and important in our daily lives.

Something I feel sets me apart is my experience and role with dance growing up. I was never in any professional or recreational position with it, so I taught myself for fun. Growing up in a household where expressing my passions for art and entertainment were limited because of financial problems, expectations for getting a better paying job (like in something STEM related), or family issues, I always somehow worked around it by dancing with and teaching my little cousins, and now having the opportunity to dance at school with my peers throughout all of high school. My constant learning through dance motivates me and gives me more insight into the lifestyle of entertaining and helping others, and hopefully using my knowledge for a future career in cinema.
