Oedipus grows up outside of Thebes and is unaware of his background, kills a random guy along the road, which just so happens to be the king, so he rolls into Thebes, marries the queen, who happens to be his mother. <title>Oedipus came to Thebes and solved the riddle of the Sphinx. He married Jocasta, the wife of the original king who had died. Later a plague fell upon the city; seeking guidance from the Oracle at Delphi, it was said that there was a defilement in their midst who must be punished. Tieresias, the blind seer was brought in for counsel, and told Oedipus that he was the problem. Ultimately, Oedipus learns that he had been adopted. That his original parents had sent him away from home to try to avoid a prediction they had heard. Oedipus ultimately realizes that he had killed his father and married his mother. At the end of the play, Jocasta has killed herself and Oedipus in his anguish, blinds himself.</title>

<title>Oedipus&#39;s father received a prophesy that he would be killed by his son, so the father and mother--rather than kill their son--left him on a mountain side shackled by his ankle to the mountain. Later, after Oedipus grows (unaware that he was adopted) he learns from a drunken guy in an Ancient Greek bar that he is not really the child of the couple who raised him and that he was left on a mountain side due to the aforementioned prophesy. Oedipus decides to leave the village to avoid being near anyone who might be his father, and he travels far away. He then gets in a chariot accident, and in an ancient form of road rage, does indeed kill his father. Oedipus then wanders to Thebes where there is a pandemic... I mean a plague. People attribute this to the Sphinx...riddle... marries his mother...had four children...pokes out his eyes.</title>
