We use our mobile phones (and other digital devices) daily and have the chance to organize our social contacts, work life and health with these small portable phones.
Technology made enormous progress and who knows how it will continue?
During the last few years, video calls on facetime or whatsapp with my family developed into an acquainted and enjoyable routine. Due to internet communication we are able to overcome distances of space and time only with making a few clicks on a mobile phone, a laptop or a tablet. Espacially during quarantine because of the coronavirus, apps where you can videoconnect with others are more popular than ever.
As a consequence of globalisation, we have the opportunity to travel around the world and meet people. Therefore, also in times where travelling is restricted everyone wants to stay in contact with his or her family, friends and colleagues. The difference between calling and video chatting is small but noticable, because you can speak to each other while seeing the other person on a display. It's almost like an ordinary face-to-face conversation, but with the exception that you can be in Los Angeles and your videochat-partner in Bali. But we also have to be careful what information we decide to share with others. There are many cases of data misuse, so you should take care.
Video calls and conferences are a great option to stay in contact not just verbally, but also visually. Besides, there are many great apps to chat with friends.

Here are the pros and cons:
Advantages:

You do not have to create an account, you just have to register your telephone number
You can send text messages, voice messages, videos, pictures, links and your location
Quick exchange of messages and you can read and reply to them whenever you want

Disadvantages:

You could easily get lost in chatting and spend your time more wisely than being on the phone
It may be difficult to interprete texts in the right way because you do not speak to each other in real life and the communication just takes place virtually in written form
Your messages could be misused by the messenger itself, you do not know how much privacy is guaranteed

There are 10 bars presented and the amount of the persons is given in percentages. The majority (25%) of the students share photos on social platforms. 19% of the participants of the survey state that they share their real name and 16% shares their interests. None of the participants reveal their relationship status. This shows that they

might think publishing their relationship status is an intervention in privacy. Furthermore, only 1% shares their email-adress and 3% share the name of the school they go to. Also 3% shares their mobile phone number.
Common data to share are superficial information e.g. photos of the landscape, which we like best and presenting the things we like on our accounts.

The question "What do you miss most during homeschooling?" were also answered. Many students miss their friends and daily routines and habits like there are some at school. Communication and exhange of ideas seem to be very important in daily life.

The internet provides us useful data, information, and knowledge for personal, social and economic development and it is up to us to utilize our time on the World Wide Web in a productive manner.
I video-chat with my family, write text messages to my friends, watch YouTube, google unknown words or search for new recipes, check my feed on Instagram, check my mails, Snapchat with my friends, watch movies/series on Netflix and listen to music. Although I make use of the internet in so many different ways, I try to reduce the amount of time I spent using my phone or laptop. We are constantly so flooded by news, you can get overwhelmed quickly. I think it is not necessary to be updated all the time, because internet can steal so much time you could spend with doing things you like instead. My phone tells me that I spent an average time of four hours everyday on my phone. In my opinion that is a lot.

But how changes the usage of English while surfing in the internet the original language? You can notice that the internet develops new words (e.g. selfie), the meaning of known words changes (e.g. nice) and words which already exist are combined in order to describe another new word, but there are also changes concerning grammar. Many users of the internet are familiar with using nouns as verbs and the other way around. There are also different varieties of English (e.g. Hinglish). It is unknown if these developments become part of the standard English. Moreover, due to the limits and high prices of sending text messages in the 1990s / 2000s abbreviations became part of the internet language.

When I send text messages I often use abbreviations in order to do not waste too much time (sometimes I also use them in real life). Furthermore, I do not spend much attention at the punctuation. My friends have a similar writting style. I often mix English and German while texting, because the English language is so present in the internet that I could not remember the German translation. But there are also changes in terms of the German language. Punctuation and the difference between small and capital letters are frequently ignored. I often use short forms or uncommon sentence structures.

The woman’s shocked expression shows that it is unbelievable from her point of view to not check every website and platform. This preposterous situation represents the huge role the internet gained in our everyday life. The internet provides many advantages, but it is overwhelming and exhausting to stay updated all the time.
The cartoon addresses an important aspect of our digital age and its influence on interpersonal relationships. The cartoonist expresses that the internet is not always a blessing and could ruin relationships and overall the ability of human interaction.
