Last year, completely out of the blue, a young man who had been in my class ten years earlier sent me a message. This student had not been easy to work with academically or behaviorally. Nevertheless, we bonded over Percy Jackson books and a love of music. He thanked me for turning his life around and told me he was now a music major in college. It was a simple gesture on his part, but I'll never forget him for the rest of my life.
