The question of where the presentation comes from is by a normal student dealing with a very evident problem that neither the student body group or the educators that want us to “succeed” are talking about.
Like many other students, personally I feel like I’m too pressured by the weigh of the curriculum the school places on students. I’m taking this time to create an effective presentation of the health factors, the relationship between school and mental disorders, and what steps are taken to treat children for the various types of problems that the pressure of the school system gives them.

In my life, everything I do is to try to make my parents proud and build a foundation so I can live a happy life. The way to do that, is through school. Without education you can’t work in society. That’s a lot a pressure already, and to think, you have to get good grades and good ACT and SAT scores to get in a good college to be in a more financially stable life style. It’s all very scary and pressuring. That’s why you have to take every step very carefully, and if you slip, it could ruin your whole plan.

Adapting and growing older has its perks and its downfalls. For example, Studies show that any human between the ages 6-17 fall victim to a 20% to get a mental disorder. This is why it’s so important to understand the problem that we are putting students in. In this time, we already have a 1/5 chance of developing s mental disorder regardless of the schooling system. We also find that, thanks to studies by Queensland University, that in a sample of 2000 students varying between 50/50 boys and girls, that “School connectedness correlated extensively with concurrent mental health symptoms at both time points (between 38% and 55% covariation with depression, 26% to 46% with general functioning, and 9% and 16% for anxiety symptoms).” Just by this study we are able to see that more than 50 percent of our students are suffering from some kind of mental disorder already before the start of the 12 month experiment. In the end of the one year experiment they found and stated that “results suggest a stronger than previously reported association with school connectedness and adolescent depressive symptoms in particular and a predictive link from school connectedness to future mental health problems.” In conclusion already establishing a connection/link between mental disorders and our current schooling.

Did you know, that 80% of children with mental disorders are untreated. Did you also know that Studies shown by the children’s mental health report that 17.1 million children in the US have a mental disorder. So with all these cases, what have schools done to aid with these challenges?
Melodie Henderson has created a report, not only reflecting on the issue that it is hand but also creates a platform to introduce a program that has worked in many schooling systems to combat against mental disorders. “Improvements include increased on-task learning behavior, better time management, strengthened goal setting and problem-solving skills, and decreased rates of absenteeism and suspensions,” the report states. She says that the constant support of mental behavior intervention improves the overall performance of students tests and grade scores.

The ultimate issue of all these mental disorders and these problems that our students have, is the pressing of all the bad things that come with it. Like suicide or drugs and alcohol. Did you know that suicide is the second leading factor of death in colleges. And 80% of children have come in contact with alcohol while 50% have used drugs. So as a high school student, personally, I have come in contact and could have had the opportunity to use drugs. I’m sure all of us has come close to contact or some of us used it too. I don’t blame you, the constant force of what we need to complete and what we need to do almost forces us to try to make us feel better. So with this information I hope we learn to do better and to maybe change and help our children from being sucked in to all this pressure.
