Three O'Clock in the Morning by Paul Whiteman

Genre-Jazz

Quote from novel-"where Three O'Clock in the Morning, a neat, sad little waltz of the year(Fitzgerald 108)"

Context-The Context of Three O'Clock in the Morning is Daisy, Nick, and Tom are talking about the party. This talk then leads to Tom wondering how Gatsby got so rich. Daisy said that he owned many drug stores. Then, as Daisy leaves and the music is playing, Nick wonders what would happen if another young girl would come and catch Gatsby's eye and make him forget about Daisy.

Significance- The significance of the Three O'Clock in the Morning is the mood it gives of off romance. This mood of romance is shown by Nick thinking if another young women would walk through the door and steal Gatsby's heart. The romance, however, seems to have left with Daisy seeing as Nick said "a neat, sad little waltz". It feels, to Nick, as if when Daisy left the romance went with her.

The Sheik of Araby by Fats Waller

Genre-Jazz

Lyrics in novel-""I'm the Sheik of Araby,Your love belongs to me At night when you're asleep
Into your tent I'll creep."

Context-The context of The Sheik of Araby is Nick And Jordan are talking about Gatsby and how he is trying to get near Daisy. Nick sees it as a coincidence, but then Jordan makes it known that Gatsby had asked her to ask Nick if he will invite Daisy over to his house. After Daisy goes to Nick's house, Gatsby wants to come over;which, would make it seem as if it was a coincidence.Jordan also lets it be known that Gatsby is worried that he waited to long to ask Nick for this favor.

Significance- The significance is that is shows the determination of Gatsby to get Daisy. Gatsby goes through all this trouble in order to get Daisy. Gatsby hasn't found another female that peaked his interest or caught his eye as much as Daisy has. The lyric that really shows his determination is the "at night when you're asleep into your tent I'll creep."

Ain't We Got Fun by Van & Schenck

Genre-Jazz

Lyric in novel-"In the morning, In the Evening, Ain't we got fun---"

Context- The Context of Ain't We Got fun is Gatsby is showing Daisy and along with Nick around his Home. Gatsby then shows Daisy and Nick the Music room where he tells Klipspringer to "Don't talk so much" and play music on the piano.

Significance-The song is significant due to the easygoing nature of the song. The song is about being almost easygoing. This easygoing mood the song gives off is contridictory to what is happening in the story due the corruption that Gatsby is trying to get with Daisy who is already with Tom. The song also mentions "Not much money, Oh, but honey,
Ain't we got fun?"; which, is the opposite of what is happening. Gatsby had gotten rich to try to get Daisy to be with him. The song's mood is oppossite of that which is happening in the story.
