The first time it was ever called a "Cold War" was by the English writer named George Ohwell in a 1945 article. He called it cold because he thought that there would be a war with no fighting in it that would have both sides possessing a deadly weapon that could kill an entire country in only minutes. Guess what?? He was right!

The mission was succesful and scientists got some good information but unfortunately the street mongrel named Laika passed away early in the mission.
*The Soviet Union had many secret bunkers and underground escape tunnels since they were very paranoid about getting attacked
*Staples uncovered Americans. Since there were American spies infiltrating the Soviet side, they needed passports. They made good quality Soviet passports but little did they know that real Soviet passports had poor quality metal staples. The Americans had good quality staples and people could easily tell the real thing from the fakes.
*From 1941-1990, if you had no children and you were either a 25-50 year old male or a 20-45 year old married woman, 6% of your wage would be taken.

One incredibly popular fashion trend among women were these types of dresses. Big puffy skirts with very cinched waists that made the women waist appear smaller. I think this was most women's goals, to look like what a man would want a women to look like in order to find a husband because that was also most women's goals back then. I like the cinched waist look in dresses but I really don't like the buttons in this picture. It kinda of looks like a jean dress and I detest jean anything that isn't a jacket or just the pants.

In my opinion, a women's life in the 1950's seemed rather boring. They were pressured to get married in their early twenties and if they didn't, they were endangered of becoming an "old maid". They were also pressured to start having kids right after marriage, also at a young age. And it wasn't acceptable to not want to have kids. I think they felt the obligation to have kids to please everyone and themselves. Additionally, women also went to college but most of the time not to study, but to get a "Mrs." degree. They basically went to college in order to find a husband. At the time, getting a husband was more important than getting a degree. But, in the 1950's, women were also starting to work more outside of homes since they were getting more job opportunities. It was mostly accepted, if your family couldn't only depend on the husbands check. If you were able to live comfortably with the husbands pay check and you still worked outside of the home, you were considered selfish for putting yourself first before taking care of the family.

Jackie Robinson was the first African American to play in the MLB in the US during the 20th century. He broke the color barrier, everyone else at the time was a white man. Obviously, Jackie received lots of racism and hate because he was a black player playing for the Dodgers, he even got hated on by some his own 'teammates'. Additionally, he was sent hate mail and death threats. There was even a movie (42) that shows a little bit of what type of problems he went through. He died in the year 1972 due to a heart attack in North Stamford, Stamford, CT.

She was finally able to go to a white school and the moment families heard she was coming, they started to take their kids away from that school. None of the teachers wanted to teach her, except one. Everyone who was supposed to be in that class got dropped out by their parents. Ruby went to class all alone that year. When she left school at the end of the day, there were groups of people waiting for her, not to congratulate her, but not hate on her. She even needed 3 bodyguards to protect her from being attacked.

I hear the man playing a guitar. The lyrics are saying that change is gonna happen no matter what, its inevitable and nobody can stop this movement. It also says to stand up and do something about this movement and to support it. "Come senators, congressmen
Please heed the call", trying to get politicians attention in these lyrics as well. Protests were still going on during this time, the singer wanted to add to the music for these times. The singer also came from a conservative Italian household and he started to question their values. Everyone at this time felt like a change needed to be made. The message the artists was trying to send was that the times are changing and we also have to change and not be stuck in the past. I think he wanted people to feel hopeful about an upcoming change for good. He was trying to promote good change. The purpose of this song was to inspire people to change and to realize that times are changing. This song was used as an anthem for the protests later on. It had a pretty big impact on it because it was popular and it had a strong impactful message that was related to what was happening during that time.

The times when they were peacefully protesting is so incredibly unfair and confusing for millions and millions of reasons. First of all, why weren't there any police officers or military for the freedom-riders? If the government knew that violent white people were THREATENING to kill and injure these freedom-riders and reporters, why didn't they do anything about it? There were even white reporters who were attacked for being 'White Negros', white Negros?? That defeats the entire purpose of the word if you call a white person that. Whats also unfair is that black people weren't allowed to attack back or defend themselves because that would only make them look worse and make them look 'violent'. Did people not notice the actual violent people? Why were their actions justified just because their skin color is light. Why are people racist to begin with? Why do people hate others based on their SKIN COLOR. Even worse, most people were Christians and they still didn't like black people? God tells everyone to love EVERYONE no exceptions if I'm correct and yet they still hated.

What does it mean to “meet violence with non-violence?” What did that look like?

To meet violence with non-violence is basically just being peaceful against others that aren't peaceful. Its like adding more heat to boiling water, if the kids would've responded with more violence against the police, they would've only worsen their already bad reputation and it wouldn't have solved any problems. But since they approached them with non-violence and pure joy, they were able to be successful and create a better image for themselves and make other people open their eyes and realize that black people weren't the violent ones, the ones attacking them were. Extra: If I were alive at that time and living in Alabama, I would've probably participated in this event because it genuinely looked really fun and everyone looked like they had a great time and additionally it was all for a good cause. I would probably not be too overjoyed about the idea of being arrested because my parents would've been very mad but there's also the possibility of my parents having a different mentality than they do now since those were different times.
