Freaks are basically zombies that roam and eat whatever they can find in the underground and the upper lands. They will eat anything, dead or alive. From page 33 it says: “In the end, we had a pile of corpses that the other freaks would eat. Best not to think about it.” The freaks meet our protagonist and friends multiple times. Later in the book on page 232 they cut Tegan’s pants and most of her leg. “The fabric of her pants had torn, revealing a long gash on her upper thigh.”

She is the only chance for her enclave to survive. In the upper land, she is nothing but a girl from underground who was exiled from her home, with 6 scars on her arm. The scars meant something in the enclave, but nothing in the upper land. On page 142 is states: “But you’ not a huntress. You're just a girl with six scars.”

I will only read a book one time then put it down, but with this book I read it 3 times, which surprised me how much I loved it. It says on the front it's for people who like the Hunger Games. And it made me think of the similarities between the two series’s. I have to say it is one of my favorite books of all time. I don't really have much to say about except it was a really good sci-fi, apocalyptic world.

He accompanies Deuce through her journey. He is her hunter partner and remains that for the entirety of the book. He is a great leader and guides the group through their entire journey on the upper lands. He is helpful and caring to the group and he helps whenever he can. From page 233 it says: Tegan just whimpered and Fade shouldered her again, taking her from Stalker.” Originally stalker was the leader I chose, but after reading the book a 3rd time I realized that Fade was more of a leader to the group and that Stalker was just tagging along.

If you read the book, you will easily notice that it's in the perspective of Deuce. The first sentence of the books says, “I was born during the second holocaust.” Not only does that sentence get you hooked but it also tells you the point of view.

Deuce always talks about how a huntress should do this or that. On page 37 it says: “As a huntress I wasn't supposed to.”

Thoughts:
Deuce is always thinking of the enclave on page 37 it says, “I should care about the greater welfare of the enclave. My job exists to keep our citizens safe.”

Effect on others:
Deuce is the only one besides another girl that Fade trusts in the enclave. Fade trusts her for comfort after that other girl is murdered in a bathroom

Looks:

The book never describes her looks, but Deuce has official art online. He has dirty blond hair that is always in a ponytail. He eye color isn't shown. She has pale skin from being underground and she has six scars on her arm. These scars mark her as a huntress.
