The consequences for those who do not conform to society is usually a lot of hate. People who do not follow the social norms or conform to what society tells them to do are looked down upon and hated by that society. Society hates anything different from them. For those people who are confident in themselves it is easy to be a nonconformist because they don’t care what others say. For the people who are not confident with themselves it’s not as easy because they re afraid of being judged.

The top five qualities I admire most in others is confidence, positivity, determination, courage, and social skills. I say social skills because I can’t think of a better word to explain it but I admire it when someone doesn’t get nervous when talking to new people, or cashiers because that’s just something I can’t do. I admire determination and courage in a person because it shows that they wont give up. When someone is able to be positive especially during a hard time they are insanely strong. Confidence is another thing I admire in other people because it takes alot to unapologetically be yourself and I admire and have so much respect for people who can do that.

Sonny loves his family and thinks that everyone should have a good family but he does not necessarily get along with his dad. Sonny’s dad has never really believed in him or given his life much thought. Sonny’s father assumed he was not smart enough and Sonny knows it this when he thinks, “I suddenly felt as stupid as Dad apparently thought I was”(46). His dad was more concerned with his older son who plays football. His dad might be taking all of this out on him because he wanted a girl but instead got Sonny. Sonny’s mother supported him and wanted him to get out of Coalwood and even saved up money so he could. His father though thought it would be a waste of good money to send him to college. His mother never stopped believing in him but when Sonny shot a rocket into the mines his dad was extremely angry and

then, “I followed him out the back gate and watched as he poured evretrything into the creek.” (95) He did not believe in Sonny or even give him a chance.
