Oggi siamo arrivati a Vila-real e ho conosciuto la famiglia che mi avrebbe ospitato per tutta

la settimana. Dopo esserci sistemati, abbiamo fatto una passeggiata sul lungomare per

iniziare a conoscere meglio la cultura spagnola e socializzare con gli altri studenti. Siamo

andati al bowling e abbiamo cenato fuori insieme. Mi sono piaciuti molto il sole e la

tranquillità di Vila Real.

Sorpresa: Gli spagnoli girano spesso per casa con le scarpe.

We arrived in Vila-real, and I met the host family who would be welcoming me for the whole week.

After settling in, we took a walk along the seafront to get to know the Spanish culture better and

socialize with the other students. Later, we went bowling and had dinner together. I really enjoyed

the sunshine and the peaceful atmosphere of Vila-real.

Surprise: Spanish people often wear their shoes inside the house.

Abbiamo partecipato a due ore di lezione e poi fatto un tour guidato della scuola. È molto diversa dalla mia a Milano: qui gli studenti della stessa classe possono scegliere materie diverse e ci sono molte attività extracurriculari interessanti. | Sorpresa: La famiglia ospitante, inclusi i nonni, non faceva la raccolta differenziata.

We attended two lessons and then took a guided tour of the school. It is very different from my school in Milan: here, students in the same class can choose different subjects, and there is a wide range of interesting extracurricular activities.

Surprise: My host family, including the grandparents, did not separate their household waste for recycling.

Oggi siamo andati ad Alcossebre a fare un trekking e poi abbiamo visitato Peñíscola. Alcossebre è una splendida riserva naturale, caratterizzata dalla tipica flora mediterranea. Peñíscola è una città ricca di storia e di bellezze naturali: in origine era una montagna circondata dal mare, collegata alla terraferma soltanto da una sottile lingua di terra. Qui abbiamo visitato il castello e un piccolo museo.

La nostra guida ci ha parlato di una piattaforma per l'estrazione del gas situata al largo della costa di Peñíscola, oggi dismessa a causa del rischio di terremoti.

Abbiamo percorso un lungo sentiero costeggiando il mare e immersi nella natura, fino a raggiungere Peñíscola, un promontorio che un tempo era abitato dai pescatori.

Curiosità: nel museo abbiamo potuto osservare le valve di un enorme esemplare di Pinna nobilis, un grande mollusco bivalve tipico del Mar Mediterraneo, oggi gravemente minacciato di estinzione.

Sorpresa: La spiaggia di Alcossebre non è composta da sabbia, ma da minuscoli frammenti di conchiglie, e ho scoperto che la Pinna nobilis è una specie ormai a rischio di estinzione.

Today we went to Alcossebre to trek and to Peñiscola. Alcossebre is a very beautiful natural reserve, with a typically Mediterranean flora. Peñiscola is a town very rich in history and nature, as it was a mountain in the middle of the sea connected to the continent by a small piece of land. There we visited the castle and a small museum. Our guide told us about a gas platform in the middle of the sea (visible offshore from Peniscula), which was dismissed because of the danger due to earthquakes

We walked along a long path by the sea and in the middle of nature. We reached Peniscula, a peninsula that was once inhabited by fishermen.

Curiosity: In the museum, we were able to observe rare species in the Mediterranean Sea, such as a pair of very large mussel valves in danger of extinction

Sorpresa: The fact that the beach in Alcossebre isn't made out of sand, but out of crushed seashells, and the fact that Pinna Nobilis is nearly extinct.

Oggi abbiamo partecipato a una lezione di fisica davvero diversa dal solito: abbiamo costruito dei water rockets, razzi realizzati con bottiglie di plastica riciclate e cartone che vengono lanciati grazie alla pressione dell'acqua. È stato molto divertente! Successivamente abbiamo visitato l'orto scolastico, dove vengono coltivati alberi e diversi tipi di ortaggi seguendo esclusivamente metodi di agricoltura biologica. Dopo questa attività abbiamo assistito alle prove di un musical preparato dagli studenti della scuola. In seguito abbiamo partecipato a una visita guidata della città, durante la quale siamo entrati nella chiesa più grande della diocesi, dove ci hanno mostrato il funzionamento di un antico organo a canne.

Sorpresa: Mi ha colpito l'attenzione con cui si prendono cura dell'orto scolastico e quanto sia accuratamente gestito. Ad esempio, utilizzano un sistema di irrigazione a goccia per ridurre il consumo d'acqua e hanno un'area dedicata al compostaggio, dove i rifiuti organici vengono trasformati in fertilizzante naturale.

Today we had a different kind of physics lesson: we had to build a rocket made out of used-up water bottles and cardboard that shoots up due to water pressure (water rockets) - I had a lot of fun! We then went to the school's vegetable garden, where they plant a few trees and various crops. They only do organic farming. After this "tour," we went to see the rehearsal of a musical the school was preparing. We went on a guided tour of the city, where we entered inside of the biggest church in Spain, where they showed us how an organ plays music. | Surprise: How much they care about their garden and how closely monitored they keep it, for example, they have drip irrigation to keep water consumption low and have a patch of soil where they let organic waste become fertiliser.

Oggi siamo andati a Valencia: abbiamo girato un po’ per la città e abbiamo visitato il Palazzo Comunale, il Mercato Centrale e il Museo Oceanografico, le attrattive principali della città. Valencia è una città verde e sostenibile, motivo per cui è stata capitale verde d’Europa nel 2024. La adoro! Al Museo Oceanografico abbiamo visto moltissime specie di animali marini, oltre ad alcune specie di uccelli.

Sorpresa: L’elevato numero di animali marini ospitati nell’acquario che sono a rischio di estinzione in ambiente naturale.

Today we went to Valencia, where we toured around the city, visiting the city hall, the central market, and the Oceanografìc Museum, the main attractions of the city. Valencia is a very green and sustainable city; this is the reason why it was the green capital of Europe in 2024. I loved it! When we went to the Oceanografìc, we saw all kinds of water creatures, as well as many different species of birds.

Sorpresa: The staggering amount of sea creatures that were shown in the oceanografìc that are endangered in the wild.

Oggi abbiamo partecipato alla Giornata dello Sport organizzata dalla scuola. Abbiamo ballato, giocato a basket, pallavolo e preso parte a molte altre attività sportive. La mattina abbiamo corso una corsa di solidarietà e poi abbiamo assaggiato delle deliziose arance locali.Successivamente ho giocato a pallavolo e ho trascorso del tempo con alcuni studenti spagnoli, divertendomi molto.Nel pomeriggio abbiamo visitato lo stadio del Vila-Real, famoso per la sua caratteristica facciata rivestita di piastrelle di ceramica gialle. Al termine della visita siamo tornati a scuola per la festa di saluto, durante la quale ci sono stati consegnati gli attestati di partecipazione e abbiamo gustato alcuni piatti tipici della tradizione locale.È stata una giornata bellissima, ma anche un po' malinconica, perché ormai mi stavo abituando a questa nuova esperienza e allo stile di vita spagnola. La sera alcuni di noi sono tornati allo stadio per assistere alla partita di calcio. Per cena, la mia famiglia ospitante mi ha portato a mangiare delle ottime tapas.

Sorpresa: Mi ha colpito il fatto che lo stadio sia alimentato interamente da pannelli solari.

Today we participated in the school's sports day event, where we danced, played basketball and volleyball as well as many other events. In the morning, we ran a solidarity race, and then I tried some delicious local oranges. After that, I played some volleyball and then hung out with a few Spanish students and had a great time. In the afternoon, we went to the stadium whose exterior façade is famously clad in bright yellow ceramic tiles. After our visit, we went back to school to have a farewell party where they gave us our certificates of attendance, and we had some delicious typical food. It was very fun, but also kind of sad, as I was just starting to get used to this new lifestyle. In the evening, some of us went back to the stadium to watch the football match. For dinner, my host family brought me out to eat tapas. It was very

good!

È arrivato il giorno della partenza. Eccoci sul van per l’aeroporto mentre salutiamo i nostri amici spagnoli. È stata un’esperienza indimenticabile che ci ha arricchiti sia come studenti che come individui e che speriamo di poter ripetere in futuro!

The day of our departure has finally arrived. As we headed to the airport, we said goodbye to our Spanish friends, taking with us unforgettable memories and valuable experiences. This Erasmus+ mobility has enriched us both academically and personally, and we hope to enjoy another opportunity like this in the future.
