When I left the comfort of my home, in the early hours of the morning to attend school, I knew I wouldn't be able to returnhome for another six hours. That was the moment when I realized that this was me crossing the threshold. Much like a hero, I had to leave my comfortable home and travel to the unknown world, which was High School. Here, I would face challenges, like a hero does, and also learn numorous skills.

Just as a hero has many challenges and temptations, I knew I would also face my own. The challenges I faced were waking up early for school, tests, and completing homework assignments. The temptations I faced were to not complete homework assignments, to not go to school, and to fall asleep during class.

In the Abyss the hero must face his/her greatest fear. The hero must face the most powerful force, both internal and external. This is where the hero also faces the greatest challenge. I also experienced the abyss during the ending of the year and had to face my greatest challenge of obtaining and maintaining high grades.

After the hero has completed his/her journey, he/she will be rewarded with a gift of the gods. This gift resembles a massive award for the triumphs overcome on the journey. This gift is also very special to the hero. The gift of the gods that I received during the first semester was winter break. This exemplified the gift of the gods because I was able to receive it when I completed my own personal journey, And triumph over challenges and temptations.

Like myself and others on the hero's journey, Hercules must also cross the threshold to an unknown world. Hercules crosses the threshold when he enters the unknown world, filled with mythological creatures and monsters. Hercules leaves the comfort of his home as well, to venture and discover who he truly is.

Hercules also faces many challenges and temptations that his enemies lay before him. He fights many monsters and overcomes great tasks. He also faced many temptations, including Meg, who attempted to seduce the weakness out of him, to use them against him.

The abyss that Hercules falls into is an internal darkness which shrouds his thoughts, feelings, and actions. This occurs when he falls in love with Meg, only to discover that she was working for Hades and betrayed him. Hercules is overcome with this new knowledge and tries to face Hades' minions alone.

The gift of the gods that Hercules receives is immortality that he worked to obtain while on his journey. This gift ultimately saves Hercules from dying, because it makes him a god. However in the end, he returns the gift to become mortal again and live with Meg, who redeemed herself by also saving his life.
