I, Mr. Bilbo Baggins, a quite normal hobbit living in The Hill, met the legendary wizard Gandalf in my humble adobe. He is looking for a quest member, and (without my permission) chooses me as the fourteenth quest number. He invites thirteen other dwarves who have decided to retrieve the lost gold and treasure of the Kingdom under the Mountain from Smaug the Dragon. I willingly (and somewhat forcefully) join and sign a contract allowing some treasure for myself if we made it. I soon set off for the journey the next day with the dwarves and Gandalf.

After days of endless pony riding and walking, the company and I decided to find a place to rest. With rain pouring, the group spots a light in the woods and sent me (as the burglar) to investigate. I found three massive trolls roasting mutton and sheep, and impulsively decided to try to pickpocket. However, I am caught, but the trolls get into an argument and I am able to scurry away. Soon, all dwarves are caught, but Gandalf frees them all. we eventually enter refuge under Elrond before venturing into the Misty Mountains. At the misty mountains, we became captured by Goblins. We eventually escaped by causing confusion and killing the Goblin King but got separated. I was lost in the deep caverns, but I met a strange creature named Gollum who kept on guarding "My Precious".

We eventually regroup and make it to the other side via difficult and treacherous walking. The Goblins try to seek revenge with Wild Wargs (evil wolves) against us company. I and the others scamper up the trees. In the end, the eagles carried us to safety and to the Eagle King, who provided us with supplies and some transportation. Traveling further east, we seek refuge in the house of Beorn, a lone raiser of animals who is known to skin-shift into a bear. He gives advice about the journey through Mirkwood and provides supplies. At this stage in the adventure, Gandalf leaves to our displeasure as it is our quest. The journey through Mirkwood is harsh and dangerous. Giant spiders almost got the dwarves and I killed, while the gargantuan wood showed no stoppage in length. Eventually, we stumbled upon the wood-elves who captured the dwarves but not me (thanks to my invisible ring). Thorin was captured earlier right after the encounter with the spiders. I plan an escape and the whole group makes it to Esgaroth via wine barrels. There, the dwarves and I were treated with a warm welcome.

Thorin and the other dwarves decided it was time to leave, which was much to my dismay. Nevertheless, we began rowing toward the Lonely Mountain where Smaug was stationed. According to our map, there was a secret passageway that went directly into the main chamber of the Mountain. We struggled to find it for days until I and two other dwarves found a sealed door. Unfortunately, the door was sealed until a hole with a keyhole appeared when sunlight hit the door. Thorin unlocked it, and we were in. All the other dwarves voted for me to go in, and I stole a priceless cup while looking at Smaug. This causes him to go on high alert, and the next time I go, I am discovered but not caught thanks to the invisible ring. After a brief talk and escape, the company decides to stay in the chamber. This was close, as Smaug destroys our escape and goes south towards Esgaroth. We don't know this, but the dragon was killed in the ensuing battle as we soon realized that the dragon was away and examined the loot. The dragon was killed by the descendant of the leader of Dale, which was destroyed by Smaug. Allied with the Elvenking, both of them decide to march to the Lonely Mountain to take the loot from the dwarves and I.

The finale of the whole novel occurred in this area of 5 chapters. The armies had gathered along our stronghold. During this time, I picked up a gleaming white gem called the Arkenstone of Thrain as part of my share secretly, which Thorin desperately wanted. Messages were communicated, and Thorin called Dain for reinforcements while Thorin refused to give up his treasure. In the night, I secretly gave the Arkenstone of Thrain as I wanted to go home and end this quest. Gandalf had arrived the next day when Thorin flung me off the main entrance towards the elf king and Bard the descendant. After this, Dain had arrived. However, the goblins quickly came into view with thousands of bats and wild wolves. They had come for revenge for the death of their king. Thus, the Battle of the Five Armies began as Gandalf organized an alliance against the goblins. The battle was looking bleak when reinforcements appeared and won the battle. After this, it was found out that Thorin had died along with two other dwarves of the group. I received my share of the treasure and eventually made it back to the home in The Hill.
