Grammar

The teaching of grammar has been a controversial topic both in terms of whether it should be taught to English learners, focus on its form or its function, meanwhile various approaches in teaching grammar have been presented until today. for example: traditional grammar teaching, communicative language teaching and post-communicative approaches.

In traditional grammar teaching, the grammar translation method is frequently practiced so that English learners acquire the ability to produce language. Educational teaching focused on function, meaning and communication, where the teaching focus is communication and language use, affirm that these teaching methods are extensions of communicative language teaching in the sense that they support the belief of knowledge of grammar as something that helps with communication and that reinforces cognitive or constructivist theories.

Learning our words in depth is complex but it is recommended and a good practice in teaching the English language. You need to create a list of words, textbooks, authentic texts, etc., and revise it in various ways, fun ways until they know it thoroughly and are likely to remember it for quite a long time, this also puts emphasis on common collocations, the pronunciation, the different parts of speech, the level of formality, etc. Ways to practice it until they are ready to remember it include sticking to a topic for a few lessons in the hope that the same vocabulary will come up again and again.

tudents must be taught a combination of different strategies to decode words they do not recognize and apply them in reading, and this is because some strategies do not work for all the words a child can read.

The approach to teaching students to read includes technological tools and illustrations of texts that can assist in the student's reading process. For example:

Guided reading: It is a teaching method used to support children towards independent reading. The teacher is a guide and helps them read some texts that they do not understand and encourages the student to think about what they are reading.

Shared reading: Students join or share the reading of a text. This could be accomplished using a projector, interactive whiteboard, or large print book. The processor is in charge and the students will read guided by him. Sharing an unforgettable experience together.

Using authentic materials in class can make students believe that they are being treated like "native speakers", this way their confidence levels increase and their learning experience progresses. Authentic materials tend to have great personal meaning for students, as they encourage them to participate in class.

The advantages of using authentic materials in the EFL classroom outweigh many drawbacks when it comes to classroom teaching and learning.
