A technology design process, in particular, the uses of a mobile phone has many different purposes which can produce different outcomes depending on the individuals social environment.
For example, my interaction with Facebook was previously just for social networking, allowing me to 'stay connected' with friends and family. However, more recently the app has expanded into a hub where I would 'discover' what is going on in the world through the Facebook algorithms. To explain, Facebook feeds me 'liked' posts from my friends and family, the more a post is liked the more likely it will appear on my feed.
Furthermore, Facebook 'market place' and 'ads' read the data collected from the browsing history (cookies). Therefore, you can say that my Facebook is a personalised catalogue that 'learns' my buying products and searching history.

1) Individual agency has increased due to mobile phone. As the power is given to me. I can choose what I want to look at and what i like to look it. I can choose what i want to interact with or who. I believe that mobile phone allows individuals to reach a higher level in Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs.

2) However, there is no such thing as 'free will'. As I may be a subject of an external ideology reinforced through an obscured set of practices of hegemony.

iPhone X, Samsung S9, Dual Camera, Fingerprint Scanner and Face iD. When will it stop? Within contemporary society, mobile phones are now considered an extension of the human body. As a society, we have placed a heavy emphasis on the importance of this device. For example, the latest mobile devices are now tenfold the cost from 10 years ago, gone are the days of a Nokia 3210 for $149, now it's a iPhone X for $1490! That speaks wonders for itself.

1) Knowledge is power. Mobile phones act as a medium to attain new knowledge on the spot. Having a mobile phone has its perks, for example, the word 'Google' can now be used as a verb? Don't think so? Well go 'google' it.

2) The mobile phone gives users the 'power' to choose their content. For example, content can be 'liked' or 'hidden' (hide post feature) from the user

3) Mobile phone users have the power to create make, or capture content for other to view.

Checking my social feed has now become an addiction. It is the last thing I do at night, and is the first thing i do in the morning. I can spend a hour swiping my thump downwards on my Facebook, Instagram and Snapchat to check for real time updates of my so called 'friends'. Even though I know what they ate yesterday, the day before that and before that, I have yet to directly communicate with them. These rituals are now a part of being a 'modern' citizen.

The act of 'liking' other people's content so they will 'like' my content gives a sense of reciprocity. Social media has made it obvious who is popular and who isn't. The more likes I get the better I feel. In addition, liking or even sharing people's content allows me to support the author's cause, or simply promote it through Facebook algorithms.
