The wisteria is very important to the book because at first it shows hope and a sense of comfort to Ann Fay, and it carried that out through the whole book and as the book progressed it became more and more important to Ann Fay, and after she showed Ida and Ellie, them too.

Polio is one of the most important things in the book, because it is both the conflict and something that brings the family together. When Bobby got Polio and died, it made the family learn how much they truly needed each other therefore bringing them closer together. And when Ann Fay got Polio she meet Imogene who helped her get over Polio and became a really close friend to Ann Fay, and made her understand how much friendship means.

The polio hospital is where Ann Fay meets someone who she connected with dearly. This is important because it sums up that you can meet amazing people in the worst of places. The polio hospital brought Ann Fay and Imogene together because they both could connect over the reason they were there and their trauma.

The overalls Ann Fay wears are one of the most important things in the book, because it is something that made Ann Fays character grow as a person due to them being given to her so she could become " The man of the House". It really makes Ann Fay learn to work hard and learn how difficult it is to take care of her family in times of need, like when Bobby died how even though she was grieving she still have to stand up and be the man of the house and take care of her siblings, let alone her own mother.
