In this book Timothy a old black man and a white boy Phillip get stranded on a island but after a while they both learn to come over their differences. Phillip the young boy goes blind he cannot see! Then on page 100 Phillip asks "Are you still black?" This shows that because he cant see him he is noticing that Timothy doesn't act much different than a white man. They act the same and are just as kind.

In the end Phillip accepts Timothy for who he is. He is a black man who is caring and strong. He cared for Phillip so much that he gave his life in the hurricane for Timothy but Phillip realized it almost too late. He changed just like Timothy did. Timothy didn't like white people then in the end he started to like them. Phillip showed him that they aren't that bad!
