The department endeavours to provide the opportunities to encourage the development of skills and attitudes through a varied programme of activities in the PE curriculum and through the provision of extracurricular activities. Sampling from the breadth of experiences and challenges provided through engagement in these activities should ensure a balanced programme for every student and contribute towards the systematic and balanced development of the students.

The contribution of Physical education to the purposeful use of leisure time is of great importance. In order to ensure that those children continue to pursue physical activities, both in their own time at school and after leaving school, their experiences in physical education must be stimulating, interesting and enjoyable. Children must be given every opportunity to develop their talents in order that they achieve their potential to the full and lead a healthy life style. The physical education department has an important role in this. It can be achieved through enthusiastic teaching, the provision of extracurricular activities and a varied range of activities. All students must be given the opportunity to develop their interests. The PE department follow the National Curriculum for PE at Key Stage 3 and 4. This ensures progression from Key Stage 2, building on prior knowledge. As well as building on work from primaries we endeavour to offer a wide range of new opportunities and activities. The curriculum at Key Stage 3 is designed so that all students have the same opportunities to participate.

Activities studied are ones that are offered locally within Sefton.

Students are encouraged to join local sports clubs which we have established close links with these including Southport Rugby Club, North Meols Tennis club, Southport & Waterloo Athletics club, local Golf clubs etc.

Joe was the winner in the high jump competition as laser beams and pressure pads on the floor measured the strength in his quadriceps.  This technology is used by athletes, basketball leagues and premier football teams when practising headers.

Patrick had the best overall aerobic endurance when he raced on a mechanical horse in a simulated grand national race. Not to be outclassed by a group of 17 and 18 year old boys, Miss Summers beat all the boys in local muscular endurance when she completed a plank for up to 30 seconds longer than the next best boy Ben.  

It was a wonderful experience and it gave the group a taster of what a degree in Physical Education or Sports Science would entail.  

 

We flew from Manchester into Madrid Airport, staying in 4* accommodation not far from the training facilities. We had 5 training sessions, all sessions taking place at Real Madrid’s training facilities and led by Real Madrid club coaches. There was also the opportunity to play a game against local opposition.

 

 During free time we had a guided tour of Madrid itself by our dedicated tour rep and a tour of the Bernabeau. There was also the opportunity to watch Real Madrid play in La Liga,

 

This is certainly a trip we would hope to organise again.
