It is hard to climb up palosebo because of gravity
and they put oil on the bamboo so it is harder to climb
up the bamboo and it is harder to get up to the top

The contestant had a difficulty climbing on the bamboo pole on a palosebo game because of the presence of gravity and friction. When he was climbing up, the gravity is pulling him down and the friction is less because the pole was greased with oil or starch. The smoothness or wetness of the pole adds the difficulty to climb up.
