         <description><![CDATA[<p>Escherichia coli (E. coli) is a gram-negative, rod-shaped bacterium that is primarily found in the intestines of humans and other warm-blooded animals. While most strains of E. coli are harmless and part of the normal gut flora, some can be pathogenic, causing foodborne illnesses, urinary tract infections, and other health issues. The majority of E. coli strains are non-pathogenic and contribute to the digestive process by vitamins like vitamin K and helping in nutrient absorption. However, certain strains, such as E. coli produce potent toxins that can cause severe illness, including diarrhea, abdominal pain, and even kidney failure in extreme cases. E. coli is often used as an indicator of fecal contamination in water testing, since its presence suggests that other harmful pathogens may also be present.  Though most strains of E. coli are harmless, pathogenic strains can lead to a range of infections. Infections caused by these harmful strains include gastroenteritis, urinary tract infections (UTIs), and neonatal meningitis. Antibiotic resistance is a growing concern with certain E. coli strains, which has led to increased research into alternative treatments and preventive measures. Escherichia coli is a versatile and essential organism, playing important roles in human health, the environment, and scientific research. While most strains are harmless, pathogenic variants are a significant concern in public health.</p>]]></description>
