I found this article interesting because of my prior knowledge about positive behavioral intervention and support (PBIS). As a teacher, this program was something that was starting to be implemented in my school. PBIS is a multi-tiered prevention and intervention framework in schools that promote student academic, behavioral, and social success (Goodman-Scott & Grothaus, 2018). Being in the behavioral committee, I had to do a few pieces of training on PBIS. On the other hand, the (RAMP) Recognized ASCA Model Program I have not heard about until this quarter, so I wanted to take a closer look at gaining knowledge on this particular program.

Ramp was started to highlight the important aspect of the program that demonstrated an advanced implementation of comprehensive, results-based, developmental programs (Goodman-Scott & Grothaus, 2018). RAMP and PBIS work hand in hand to work towards student success strengthen one another.

I notice that in this article, these two programs were school counseling programs. At my school, PBIS was being implemented by the behavior interventionist of the school. This is hugely beneficial if the school counselor and behavioral interventionist collaborated to work on these programs. When the teachers in my school heard that the behavioral interventionist was associated with this program, it was automatically looked at as a program to fix the school's behaviors. PBIS, if implemented correctly, could have a positive impact on not only behavior but student academic success for all.

                                                                                Reference

Goodman-Scott, E., & Grothaus, T. Counselors support all students in order for them to all have the same academic advantages and resources. This will in order to achieve student success for all. Using the skills and knowledge to help bring awareness to multicultural issues. It helps the counselor to understand and be knowledgeable about the best practices of a school counselor. There may be times where a school counselor needs to refer to the ASCA Ethical Standards for School Counselors. The ethical standards can help school counselors when being faced with a situation. The ASCA ethical standards supports and gives direction when it comes to self-assessment, peer consultation and evaluation (American School Counselor Association [ASCA], 2019). This can help guide the school counselor when their personal beliefs start to influence ethical standards in school counseling.

Vision Statement

Create a safe environment where all students are respected.
