Looking back on previous groups it is clear to see that the peaceful political route was not working and other groups were trapped between being a peaceful and violent party. However, views were already changing as proven by the reforms on the CDA's and society as a whole was becoming much more advanced so it could be argued that the militant approach was more barbaric then it needed to be for the time frame.

There are many aspects that argue a more negative perspective such as losing support from the public and previously sympathetic politicians. However, I believe that overall these tactics were largely important in securing women the vote because it increased the publicity and therefore the membership as well. However, by 1908 their aggressive militant activity, e.g. attacks on MPs and the window breaking campaign. Undoubtedly caused them to lose a significant degree of support both within public and government. The arson attacks on Bristol damaged property severely and acted to show that the WSPU was more of a terrorist organisation than a political one.
