A defense mechanism would be intellectualization because when I don't feel good and when my days not going well i'm always going to be nice to others. An example is when my dad was in the hospital he had his 6th heart surgery I was there every single day and I would text my mom about him and spend all night in the hospital with him. Also with my brother when he got in his car accident I called him everyday and I had him sleep over my house and tell him that his problems will go away and that he'll be okay. I pay attention to body language and everything in my surroundings and I see how someone's personality is before I speak to them so I know what to say and what not to so I won't offend that person. I experienced a lot of relationships in my life and made friends who I thought were my friends that never cared about me so I just ended up not caring and stop trying so hard for other people. My Mom always told me "the only friends you have is the money that is in your pocket" and the first time i heard that I thought "man this lady is crazy" lol but it turned out to be very true.
