All inmates who have been sentenced to death, whether male or female, will eventually serve their last day at the Huntsville Unit, although Death Row inmates are not housed at this unit.
Death Row inmates are transported to the Huntsville Unit the day of theri execution. 
Huntsville Unit has a maximum capacity of 1,705 male offenders, inmates typically range from minimum to medium security levels, as well as those considered transient or just staying for a short amount of time. Inmates are able to get a job while in the facility, these jobs include working in a textile mills, producing garments, and working in the mechanical department providing repairs, welding and machining. Some are even selected to be able to work outside the facility in the prisoner cemetery providing landscaping and maintenance services. 
While incarcerated, inmates are able to attend educational programs that include literacy courses, adult education classes (basic education) and even the opportunity to earn their GED, they are able to receive diplomas in automotive mechanics, imaging technologies, as well as culinary arts and business image management. They also receive Substance abuse treatment and sex offender education programs before being released.
