Anne Hutchinson was an influential Puritan speaker and spiritual leader who spread her word of her version of how she perceived the bible. She encouraged people not to follow what all the ministers were preaching and to follow their path and beliefs. She learned most of this from her father, who was also a minister. She wanted people to see that they did not have to go by everything the bible said word for word. She wanted people to believe they could do anything through their salvation and their own beliefs, not what someone told them to do. It was because of her that people today know her story, she was one of the first few women to stand up for women's rights and freedom.

The more she spoke out, the more attention she attracted, especially from Governor John Winthrop. He and other ministers were very Puritan and did not approve of Anne speaking out against them, especially as a woman. Women during this time were never supposed to speak out against men or any authoritative figure and were only supposed to be mothers and house wife's.
